"I- have made a huge mistake..."

More Miitopia art, this time featuring the entire party + the Dark Lord. The most intense and memorable part of the game for me was the first large chunk of Krakatoa when you have to rescue your teammates. For some reason that part really stuck with me. Maybe it's the fact that the game somehow manages to make you really attached to your teammates (which i attribute to both the self-selected party, their out-of-battle shenanigans and them being AI controlled making them feel more like their own characters rather then just extensions of the player), so when you find them as faceless husks, it- leaves an impression on you. You feel almost guilty, knowing that it's your fault they're in this situation in the first place, both for choosing them as party members and for sleeping through their kidnapping.
Three times.

Still, it becomes super satisfying to finally rescue them, all in this sort-of boss rush fashion leading up to the not-so-final boss. In fact, this section left such an impact that it's probably one of the many reasons why the second half of the game drags so much. I mean, sure, we love the Great Sage, but having to save the people you've been traveling with for the entire game tends to have more of an emotional impact then having to save a typical, all-mighty 'mentor' character who's probably had about as much overall presence as the Quizmaster at this point. Not to mention when they are in your party, they're only there for about the first half of Krakatoa before completely ditching you. "Oh! You've probably got enough friends now! Surely you could no longer use my powerful magic attacks or healing capabilities when facing the next five or so bosses, including the Dark Lord I also openly appose. I'm just gonna sit around doing absolutely nothing until I'm needed for a dramatic sacrifice or something. I have faith in you! Laters! "
