... the silence a mirror
that breaks the light in two...

Much as I like to keep my submissions more or less chronologically ordered I’ve noticed that I’ve been a little… “hard” on you lately! I mean for some time now it’s just “Chios, rocks, sea, Chios, rocks, sea” and so on. Plenty more where those came from too, my little island… rocks, pun intended! So this time I’m gonna take you on a huge leap through space and time (approaching lightspeed) and a slightly different combination: Kastoria, rocks (duh!), lake and, oh, look, there’s mountains too!

I fell in love with Kastoria upon my first visit there, two years ago. I remember thinking that I would gladly spend the rest of my life there, photographing every little corner of its lake-side road, a very strange thought at the time since I wasn’t into photography at all (those were my video processing days). I fell in love with it all over again during our visit with *KirlianCamera in January. True, the sunrises there were too foggy and overcast to reveal any color, but those walks along the lakeside were pure joy! On the other hand we soon found out that driving through the town is like being stuck in an adventure game where you keep running around in circles, going past the same places again and again because the exit is very cleverly hidden!

On the day this shot was taken we had decided to try our chances at a sunset by the lake hoping to catch some reflections of the few clouds that were there. Wanting to get as low as possible I climbed off the road and crawled to this spot using the moss covered wall to balance myself. The setting sun was right behind me, low enough to paint the clouds, high enough to illuminate the mountains. On my way back I gave that wall one last thorough brush and emerged green and, given the bulk of the heavy coat I had been wearing, resembling the incredible Hulk
