Pierre Brassau’s actual name was Peter, and he wasn't a born artist (in fact, the first time his zoo keeper gave him paints he ate them). His favorite color was cobalt blue, which had a somewhat tart flavor. After a few tries, Peter began to brush and smear paint on canvas … working primarily in his preferred blue.

After he had enough paintings for an exhibit, the prank, as they say, was on. Surprisingly, after the truth came out about "Pierre Brassau's" true identity, some critics still insisted the chimp's paintings were the best they'd seen, and one collector even bought a canvas for his private collection. After all, art is in the eye of the beholder!
