Description
Detail view from Tic-Tac-Time To Lose: all those arcade cabinet screens were in fact hand drawn! By me! Because this piece didn't just get away from me, it sprinted off into the sunset despite my protests.
Top left: totally not Pac-Man
Top right: parody of the Battletoads start screen
Buttom left: parody of Space Invaders where instead of shooting down aliens you catch fruit in baskets. :3
Bottom right: totally not Tetris, with left portion left blank when I realized it wouldn't be visible in the pic
Process: It was harder thinking up games to parody than the actual drawing! Most of them made use of Grid + Snap + Direct Draw (aka Line) to produce the chunky straight-edged look. "Shroomies" of course just got freehanded.
After making each of these I imported them as File Objects into the main pic, used Free Transform mode to line up the corners with the cabinet edges, duplicated each one (flattening into a normal layer in the process) and ran a ~20px Gaussian blur over the duplicate. Original File Object layers were left in Normal 100% layer mode, blurred duplicates were set to Linear Light 100% to produce the fuzzy glow look. When I got to the shading step I left these layers untouched because they already looked so CRT & glowy!
