Farfield Equestrian Spring Fling XC Derby 2023

Horse: SAE Appointment with Death
Rider: Jasper Marshall
Level: Grasshopper/starter

Story: Spring in the Air (read on Ao3 here !)
Jasper was a bit nervous. This was his and Randevu’s second show, though much closer to home than Sky and Sea International. Shady Acres was practically a hop, skip, and a jump away.

Beneath him, Randevu was as relaxed as ever. Figured. Even before the stallion didn’t seem affected by Jasper’s pre-show jitters. Jasper could hear the red dun appy peacefully mouthing at his bit. It was almost like he didn’t even realize he was participating in a show at all.

The employee who stood off to the side counted down, wished them good luck, and off they went.

Perhaps his uncle should’ve won over Jasper in entering Beginner Novice rather than Grasshopper - they’d jumped at that level at Sky and Sea - but Jasper wanted more confidence at riding in a show before going to that level again. His nerves had been all over the place, and it was only Randevu’s unflappable attitude that allowed them to get a clear round.

Either way, the Zlesdin was handing these jumps like they were nothing, and Jasper breathed a sigh of relief after the last one. Randevu settled into a skeggas as they neared the creek and splashed through it with a tired, happy head bob.
Both of them were breathing heavily, and Jasper’s mouth was dry. He knew Randevu’s had to be as well.

He leaned down to pat the Zlesdin’s neck, the tassel on the sha-dez swinging gently now as Randevu slowed to a walk.

Now, he had to cool down his steed, get Randevu settled in his stall, and find Andrea to see the what they could of the remaining rounds and wait for his results.
