No matter what cost, Jamie is a man of his word; when he sets his mind on a path, little will deter him. In his youth, he’s eager to prove himself, sticking to passions and pushing forward with all his might. Hotheaded and warmhearted, Jamie values nothing more than being honourable and strong-willed despite anything, and strives to be as fair as possible. Never would he turn a blind eye to those in need, even if it puts himself at risk, standing both for family and friends. When Jamie cares, he cares, to a point where it can get a little annoying. Always wanting to do what's best for the family, he's willing to go to the ends of the Earth for them. In his eyes, family and connections are the most precious things, and his affection extends towards friends and potential future family members.
Eager to make his mark, Jamie works hard and tries to be useful in everything he does, or at least not making things worse…He's a diligent and studious person who takes pride in whatever work he’s given: striving not only to improve as an individual, but to lift some weight off the family's shoulders as well. Blunt and honest, Jamie can’t help feeling wrong lying or sugarcoating things - so he avoids it, because it feels easier to just be straightforward. Even if the situation calls, he’s likely to remain silent than to make something up on the spot: Jamie is not the one to think too hard before he acts, and adapting to situations is probably his biggest pet peeve, which would only lead to trouble if he tried to improvise. It shouldn’t be too surprising that a boy raised in such a big and conservative family that puts much value onto preserving traditions and learning responsibility from a young age would turn out to be just like that - bitter-end, downhome, a bit closed-minded, perhaps. Backstory
Jamie’s upbringing in a large rustic family was one full of love and care, despite also being full of hardships of poverty-driven life. The oldest of four children, Méiri, Briain and Riain, Jamie excelled at all games, jobs around household and personal traits as well, growing up as a proud example of a perfect O’Cailean: vigorous, diligent and honourable. Never the one to complain about the state of things, Jamie has instead quietly fostered the dream of becoming a knight and paying a tribute to the family. As the boy grew, however, the true state of manners in the family became more apparent to him: from the beginning, he was trapped in a constant cycle of dependence and responsibility, where, as the eldest, Jamie often found himself taking on more responsibility than his siblings, who “had it easy”. Engrossed in the farm’s workings, his parents were often busy, leaving the younger kids under the older brother’s protection and watch. Jamie didn’t resent his duty, nor did he grew to hate his siblings because of that - but in his heart there always seemed to be something a bit missing from the childhood that ended too fast; perhaps some personal goals and dreams were yearning to be set free, but Jamie knew he could not act upon them, not now still when his family needed him. This became the source of many hidden doubts later in his life.
