This was before that comic...I still hold onto some belief that BLU engie is part of it...
We'll see, huh?

I think Gray had the help of Dell's Grandfather, MAYBE.

This picture... I might have to set it for my desktop background. It is glorious.

And like most people I've got my own version of what mighta happened with him-- namely, that he got in as kind of a 'screw you' to the Administrator and Blutarch (who I might add has his grandfather dug up without his permission to get to certain blueprints) and for headcanony reasons that I won't bother getting into right now. And then he realized that this wasn't just an attack on Mann Co. but on his fellow team mates, and then it was a little late to duck out...

xD The feel of thinking a pic is so cool you've gotta put it as your desktop background? Or of having a ridiculous headcanon that's convoluted enough to make it difficult to explain to people?

Oh, I've got a fanfic version of that written if you're interested.

There are a lot of little pointers. For instance, BLU Engineer has been known to show up in MVM matches as an opponent. In the Engineer update video, it was confirmed that BLU Engie was responsible for building the robots.

Go to the TF2 homepage. Scout, Spy, and Heavy are all looking at one person. These are the only three that know Engineer is involved with the robots. (This was revealed when a secret room was found on two different maps, both of which held confidential information about the MVM update.)
Personally, I believe Valve is aware they are leading us on, but whether they do anything about it is up for debate. They have been known to leave loose ends behind. It could amount to nothing for all I know. I'm overthinking it!

Small-Brawler [2012-11-09 01:30:32 +0000 UTC]

I doubt Engie would've been fraternizing with Grey... It's still a rather good theory, though. His intellect and knowledge and maybe even the abuse he got on the battle fields could've lead him to betray MANN Co... I dunno, really - Engie just seems to loyal and just to go and to that sort of thing. :/

There are sentry busters though... You know, the big walking bomb with legs? Also, it could be possible that Gray built the robots. He learn how to talk while he was still inside his mother's belly! He's smart enough.

My own theory about Dell is that he's not evil. He's misguided. And he seems to have an almost addictive personality when it comes to creating so much so that he gets blindsided out of eccentricity. While it doesn't justify him doing evil things, he's one of those guys who can be guided back on the right path when given the right push. In other words, Dell is not evil deep down. He's just on a really huge power trip and he's surrounded by obvious temptation, but I think there is hope for him.

I admit this is wish fulfillment talking, but I hope there's a follow up comic in which Dell sees what he's doing is wrong and makes amends.

this is basicly my typical behavor every night, he's also my fave. class

i wonder if he is studying new buildings in that book though (his inital buildings are the Sentry Gun, Dispencer, and the Teleporters, but with the Gunslinger, he can build mini-versions of the Sentry, and some players had made concepts of other buildings he can build)

the examples i came accross so far are the Shield Generator (hence the name, generates a shield around a radious, protecting the shield's occupants from outside damage as long as the shield doesnt overload), the mobile camera (the engineer can depoly the camera somewhere where he wishes to keep a close eye on, but needs to be elsewhere, he can then monotor the area the camera is at with a special PDA linked to the camera), the eletronic beartrap (traps obvious players that step on it and renders them helpless untill they get it off), the mini-dispencer (a mini-version of the dispencer), the fire-sentry gun (unlike the normal sentry, uses fire to attack rather then bullets and rockets), and the high-cal/ long range sentry (has more firepower and a longer range, but fires much slower and cannot use rockets)

My theory is that the BLU and RED Engis each designed the Tobor fleet as I call it, and that Grey Mann stole them and had them built for use own usage.

OkamiTakahashi In reply to K8r-t0t [2012-10-19 01:17:11 +0000 UTC]

Why thanks. I tend to cook up my own personal headcanon for a few different aspects of TF. I.E a workaround for Heavy's "non-canon" Poker Night appearance. Remember what the Administrator said about breeching contract in Meet the Director? Perhaps Heavy altered stories about his life to avoid such a thing. And as for how he got there? I assume Engineer built some sort of advanced teleporter that can not only time travel but cross dimensions.

I saw an interesting theory on the whole respawning process here: [link] , and in Poker Night, Heavy acknowledge having "nightmares", meaning they're unaware of the process of it. Or at least most of them. Engineer, Demoman, Soldier and Sniper all appear to be aware of it based upon in-game lines, like "How many times have you died?" and the unused WAR! update lines given to the Robots; and those lines suggest Demo and Solly had pretended to hate each other just to obtain their new weapons. With their old contracts gone and needing to team up against the Tobor Fleet, I think it's safe to say they can still be friends and not have to worry about contract breeching.

We know the classes are aware of the other teams' seemingly identical counterpart, but is it an artificial copy, or an entirely different person with coincidentally identical backstory? (Remember those two new Red Engineers in Blood Brothers?) And how are there multiples on each team?

Not sure about the fate of Engi's dad. But we know TFC is somehow in the same universe. Where does it take place; like what year and what location? I'm guessing Australia for location due to the technological advancements previously established in Loose Cannon. Also to be noted are the apparent Black Mesa crates. I know its just HL1 content reused but to me it brings up an interesting point. Since TF is in a different universe than Half-Life, Portal and Left 4 Dead (Bill's Hat and apparently a frying pan and one of Ellis' hats all seem to have fallen through a portal and landed in the TF2niverse), does this mean that there are TF2niverse incarnations of Black Mesa and Aperture Science, and do they have any involvement with Mann Co?

Heh, sorry for going on about this. Just something I like to think about. I've also found a way that the TF2niverse connects with that of the TF2/CS/Battlefield Heroes ripoff Final Combat...

Super cool. Headcanons like these are always fun because they are relevant to the continuity issues. I wasn't aware Heavy mentioned respawning in Poker Night at the Inventory though. Could you expand on that?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

OkamiTakahashi In reply to K8r-t0t [2012-10-19 10:35:56 +0000 UTC]

Yes, Heavy discussed having nightmares about being killed with Strong Bad. Dead doctors everywhere, Spy cannot be found, visions of endless suffering. Then he remembers "I am Heavy Weapons Guy, no one can kill me!" So unlike Sniper, Demo, Solly, Engi (who according to the theory I linked to would have been behind the respawn idea) and possibly Spy, Heavy seems oblivious to respawning.

Team-Friction In reply to OkamiTakahashi [2013-07-16 00:33:57 +0000 UTC]

That was actually a different conversation. With the respawn thing he says 'I sometimes have nightmare I am KILLED in battle! There is blood everywhere... but then I wake up and I realize this is ridiculous. Noone can kill Heavy Weapons Guy!'

This visibly gives Tycho the willies when he catches onto what this means.

Mhm.

And while we're still on the continuity thing, there's the *ahem* connections to Xunlei's Final Combat. Now, aside from the obvious theft and conversion of content from TF2, Counter-Strike and Battlefield Heroes, including weapons, sounds animations and even an altered version of koth_harvest and de_dust, the backstory itself has ties to TF2.

RED and BLU each secretly control half of the world's governments via their intel cases. In Final Combat, people become suspicious of the governments and form the Final Combat Team to rebel against them. Then a rift opens up due to differences in ideologies, and thus the FC team breaks up into Red and Blue teams. There's also a hat/store system, though its more based on Battlefield Heroes' flawed system, backstories for each class and subclass (multiple characters for each class giving players a wide array of different Soldiers, Heavies, etc). The Fireman Rocket is American, unsurpisingly, which gives me the feeling he's a descendant of Soldier if we were to factor Final Combat into the TF2niverse.

Interestingly, before TF2 had Mann Vs. Machine and koth_king, FC had its own Chinese city map and a mode where you fight (or play as) a robot, and the credits system had already been implemented before that.

There is also a theory in which the Engineer built the robot Engineer for Grey Mann and then the robot Engineer built all the other robots, which may be why there is no engie bot in MVM.
