Description
C-259W medium tactical transport aircraft were acquired by Germany in 2026 with total of 36 aircraft that were ordered delivered by early 2029. Initially, all of C- and CN-295Ws were used in standard cargo configuration, but were not capable of transporting standard Wespe 2 IMV . At the same time new An-74TK-200s produced in Germany started entering service and Luftwaffe decided to dispose of all their C-295s. The Federal Government did not allowed to sell acquired C-295s to other nations but along with BAAINNVA decided to reuse the airframes for other specialized variants. With that, 12 were converted to AC-259W gunships, 3 to E-295FW, 12 to P-295FW, 3 to EK-295W and 6 were transferred to newly formed Bundesministerium für Bevölkerungsschutz und Katastrophenhilfe (Federal Ministry for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief). Later in following years, BAAINNVA ordered additional 12 P-295FWs for Kriegsmarine, 6 C-295Ws for BMfBK, 9 C-295Ws and 3 EK-295Ws for BMfS and finally 9 C-295FW/SAR for Küstenwache. Even though C-295s were phased-out of service with Luftwaffe, they found new roles in other branches of both NVA and Federal Ministries.
