Steamboat SpongeBob is a 1928 American-Canadian animated short film directed by Walter Nickelodeon and Charles Paramount. It was produced in black and white by Paramount Cartoon Studios and was released by The National Film Board of Canada, under the name of Canadian Productions. The cartoon is considered the debut of SpongeBob, Potty The Parrot, and Sandy Cheeks, Mr. Krabs, Gary The Snail, Squidward, Plankton, all of them, although all characters appeared several months earlier in a test screening of Dolphin Crazy. Steamboat SpongeBob was the third of SpongeBob's films to be produced, but it was the first to be distributed, because Paramount, having seen The Jazz Singer, had committed himself to produce one of the first fully synchronized sound cartoons.Steamboat SpongeBob
