Description (Y'know...for such a great burrower, Baragon never had very big claws...)

Earth Guardian
BARAGON

Height: 20 meters
Length: 40 meters
Mass: 300 tons
Type 1 - Beast Class

Bio:
(Excerpt from "Legend of the Yamato Guardians")

-"One of the first Spawn of Orochi, the Earth Beast Baragon set about to devour the people of Yamato. Blinded by rage and bloodlust, the creature seemed unstoppable, yet the Priests of Yamato intervened before many lives were lost. At first, the valiant holy ones tried to set the beast into slumber using all the sake they could conjure, but this merely made the beast more reckless and destructive. So, the priests had a new idea: seeing Baragon's mighty appetite, they intended to make him so full that he would drift to sleep from both food and drink. Ordering a thousand bowls of rice be made, they presented the feast to Baragon, who gourged himself until he seemed like he would pop. The craftiest of the priests, however, had tricked Baragon. She had mixed dust from the wings of Mothra into the rice, and the monster fell fast asleep. The priests then purified his spirit, squelching his rage, and cast him into a deep slumber..."

Baragon wouldn't appear again until 2004, when he arose to battle a new foe...

Abilities/Aspects:
- Can breath a highly combustable, napalm-like substance from the mouth
- Able to leap an astounding 200 meters
- Can burrow with remarkable speed
- Ears are extra sensitive, and prefers night to day

Huh. I never really thought about the claws.

"Uh oh, not gooood. FOCUS Baragon!"
Baragon confronting Megaguirus.
To me, Baragon is humourus and somewhat child-like. He often shares counterspace with Varan, since they are best friends. Like Varan, he has a knack for getting into trouble! What do you think?

When I first saw Baragon, he looked like a cross between a Triceratops and one of those quadrepedal reptiles from the Permian and Triassic periods.

Not to complain or anything, but I thought Baragon was a dinosaur.

He's my fave too. But I like the original story of Baragon more. Originally, Baragon is a giant dinosaur that escaped extinction by burrowing deep in the Earth.

He was like that in the Random House Godzilla novels. In fact there's one scene where he sees a car trying to drive away and he jumps on it and plays with it like a cat toy.

I have this old Godzilla game for Super nintendo Entertainment System called Godzilla: Monster of Monsters. In it Baragon cheats!!!! As Mothra he pins you down and hits you with his laser. As Godzilla he continues to attack before you get the chance to use your atomic breath.

Godzilla: Monster of Monsters was on Nintendo, not Super Nintendo.

cause he is a kaiju, and it makes him look cool. also in the older series it glowed i think, so maybe it helped light his way through the underground

Always trying to be tough, that Baragon. GMK scarred his cred forever, though. All the same, you really just can't beat the GMK Godzilla, almost illegaly unfair. Well, anyway this definitely looks subterranean, unlike 'mouse-ceratops' in GMK.

Rocnik In reply to mastapikmin [2009-01-09 18:30:15 +0000 UTC]

Baragon could have been an insperation for Nidoking being that there are other Pokemon based on Japanese popular culture and mythology such Tyranitar having a vague resemblance to Godzilla and Ninetales looking like the mythical Japanese nine-tailed fox.

I like how your redesign actually makes him look like something that spends most of its life underground. The big forearms are a real improvement.

Once again a great redesign. I've always liked Baragon and although there's not really that much I have to complain about when it comes to his previous designs from the few movies that he appeared in, I think that the huge frontlegs that you gave him is a huge improvement. It makes sense for a creature that spends most of its time digging.
