Description
Godzilla Neo - GODZILLA EARTH
HEIGHT: Unknown
MASS: Unknown
Bio:
After Princess Salno discovered her ancestral alien ability to foresee the future (or at least possible timelines) in which a golden, three-headed dragon descended to Earth and burned it to barren dust, she was content, for a time, to return to Selgina and rule with clarity and fairness.
As time moved on and monarchies began to shift out of style, Salno found herself as little more than a figurehead that a true matriarch. Ironic, considering that she herself spearheaded the democratization of her country.
But in the 90’s, with a re-emergence of monsters into the world in full force, she was approached by a Japanese envoy, organized by G-Force, who requested her aid in helping to organize the growing ESP Research Institute.
At first, Salno was hesitant. She had little desire to revisit the strange events of her past, and even if she did, the “how” of it was beyond her.
And yet, then she met with the soft-spoken, but forcefully passionate Miki Saegusa, the rising star of the ESP Institute. After meeting with her in private, Salno and Miki discussed the young woman’s theory that humanity’s emerging number of psychics was a sort of evolutionary response to the kaiju threat - possibly seeded in the far past by the Venusian refugees who co-mingled with early hominids.
Miki turned out to be the sugar needed for Salno to take this medicine; Earth was changing, and she could do more to help than stand on balconies and wave to her citizens while other men and women ran the country.
As the years passed, Salno and Saegusa were able to track down many young people who were not only showing latent psychic abilities, but also those who showed a surprising adeptness for precognition.
Salno herself, through Saegusa’s guidance, was able to reconnect with her own powers, but only for short moments and for limited range. She gradually became frustrated with her limitations, for even as she grew older, she felt that there was more she could be doing to help.
One day, while in the field, Saegusa received an emergency call from the Institute: Salno had fallen into a coma. She had evidently pushed herself too hard, and was not waking up.
Saegusa, terrified at what fate may befall her friend, rushed back to Japan.
What follows is a transcript of a half-awake Salno, having responded almost immediately to Saegusa at her bedside.
“I...am a Venusian.”
Saegusa: “...Am I addressing the entity that foretold the coming of King Ghidorah?”
“I have lived a storied life of sorrow and joy. Of darkness and kindness. Of politics and friendships. Of love...and loss.
This life, and these lives...many times over. In more ways than you can imagine. This life is but one of infinite...so many lives...all folding out from each other in an endless fractyl upon fractyls.”
Saegusa: “You say ‘many lives,’ where do you and the princess end and begin?”
“I am. We are. We all are, and we all are not.”
Saegusa: “...what does that mean? Are you or aren’t you?”
“We are the endlessly possible. We are, we have been, will be, and may never be. Many of us died on the airplane. Many lived to make it to the fisherman’s boat. Many did not.
This vessel only has so much time upon the tangible plane of existence...but we has grasped something. Something very, very far from these fleeting moments of discarnate verisimilitude.”
Saegusa: “Far from here? Far from now? The future? What did she see? What did YOU see?”
“I see...a world of green...
A world that is no longer ours...
We have been cast out. Or crushed underfoot. The children of Venus are long extinguished. Mankind flees beyond to the cold and dark. What remains hardly resembles their long absent cousins.
What rules this green world, where the air is thick and the land itself a dangerous beast, is a true god.
Beyond mankind...beyond beast...beyond kaiju.
It is a beast of green, from which life begins and ends. Of endless strength and patience. It knows no pity or fear. It only knows that the world belongs to it. And it belongs to the world. They are all but one and the same.”
Saegusa (voice breaking): “What...what IS it?”
“...Earth.”
Salno recovered not long after. She returned to Selgina to live out her remaining days, and Saegusa was at her bedside when she passed.

Well Godzilla Earth is currently the largest incarnation of Godzilla. The fact that you can see a couple clouds should give you some idea just how big he is (or how tall he is to be above clouds).

Hopefully Godzilla Earth will be the biggest Godzilla PERIOD. Because there's no way Toho will make him any bigger.

It is starting to get ridiculous at this point. They keep it up and soon he’ll be too big for the planet!

I searched it up.
He's 300 meters high, which is WOW.
But the movies are actually quite stupid - all about "Earth's revenge to human technology" more or less.
And with a lot of implied gore, or at least it seems that way from the plot summaries.
I haven't (and ain't planning to) watched those, though.

Yeah, he’s pretty damn big. Though oddly enough he only weighs 100,000 tons, which is approximately the same weight as Keizer Ghidorah. So theoretically Final War Goji could lift and throw the 300 meter Godzilla Earth with relative ease! XD
Eh, wouldn’t fault you for not giving them a chance. I watched all three of them, so I know firsthand how bad they are. The first movie was alright, still not good but the best of the three films if I had to choose. The second one starts out okay but got bad near the end. Especially since we didn’t get to see Mechagodzilla battle with Godzilla. Though the post credits scene hinted that the third movie would be mind blowing when they uttered the name Ghidorah, that we would see this gigantic Godzilla and an even bigger King Ghidorah clash in what would likely be an earth shattering battle. It ended up being anything else but. Instead of a mind bending battle, all we got were three spaghetti noodles coming out of portals and clamping onto Godzilla like jumper cables. That’s literally all they do until Godzilla manages to get the edge over Ghidorah and banishes him from our dimension. They could’ve had Ghidorah use his gravity beams and throw Godzilla around or something and that would’ve been cool to watch at least. But no, they didn’t make him do anything else.

That wasn't my reason.
I can only say that this is the same reason why I don't watch Attack on Titan, very much exactly.
Drama gore for the sake of drama gore.
YUCK.

Oh, that. Yeah, there’s a lack of drama gore in the Godzilla anime trilogy.
People do die, but it’s never anything messy.

I think you missed my point.
I *hate* when people die just to show off someone is "evil".
Especially if it's totally unnecessary for the plot progression in the first place.
In this case, the main "hero" hating Godzilla for killing his parents is absolutely pointless, because it switches Godzilla from a "wild rampaging disaster" to a "personal vendetta target".
EXACTLY like what happened in AoT.
*I* *HATE* *SUCH* *STUFF*.
Period.

Koshej In reply to Strikerprime [2020-04-03 08:05:27 +0000 UTC]
More like the ONLY reason - I otherwise enjoy Kaiju stuff, lol.
But only until it battles other Kaiju, robots, or scenery - but not innocent bystanders, or worse, plot-related innocents.
Hence why AoT is one big shit in my eyes (not that it's THAT great even besides this).
Oh, and also why I dropped FMA after the chimera-girl episode.
Same reason - I hate unnecessary suffering of innocents, and it was clearly a case of "stupid evil for the sake of stupid evil".
Not even "evil for the sake of evil", because the "evil" guy was the one who got rid of her, and he's not an evil guy beyond this context.
In fact, the contextual "evil" (and crazy) guy was her dad, who is personally responsible for the entire "problem".
It's basically Haku Yuki all over again, but more personal than political.
"Innocents must die in order to provide a drive for the Hero to be Heroic - and for the audience to hate someone automatically."
Awful plot-building, period.

Apparently Gen Urobuchi had originally planned for Godzilla to fight MechaGodzilla in the second movie, but Toho vetoed the idea due to wanting the anime trilogy to do something different from past films -- namely staying away from kaiju battles in favour of focusing on the drama of the human characters.
I guess the "fight" in the third movie was their idea of a compromise or something.

Well, that was an idiotic decision.
While the anime trilogy was utter trash. The novels that act as prequels for them were actually amazing! As they detail the decades of Giant Monster attacks across the globe both up until and after mankind’s exodus of Earth.
There were various Kaiju that appeared and caused mass destruction and we got to read about mankind’s attempts at stopping them. The novels were honestly what the films should’ve been about, as that would’ve been much more entertaining to watch. It takes the elements of Destroy All Monsters and Final Wars and multiplies it by 10.

It's awesome that you died the lady from Ghidorah the Three-Headed Monster to the psychic lore from the Heisei Era, AND used it for the origins of the Godzilla from that disappointing anime trilogy.

I dig the design as a more polished version of the original G-Earth, with those Neo-ified touches. I'd have issues with the legs being kinda spindly compared to the body, but I think the massive tail makes up for that. While I'm bummed there's no power coverage, it makes sense in conjecture with the bio. Absolutely *love* the expansion of Salno and the Venusian here. It's a really creative spin on the material that I am thoroughly enjoying. Though judging from this presentation, Earth sounds to be a one-off entry that wholly encompasses the anime trilogy. I guess that'd be for the better, unless that magically place called Patreon has something to say about that...
Overall, a solid one. Nice to have another Neo under the belt.

I pray that the voters on Patreon don’t decide to do anything stupid. Godzilla Earth’s better off this way in the Neoverse.
Hopefully they don’t have the gall to suggest that he do something crazy like Mechagodzilla City or be dumb enough to add anime Ghidorah (which would completely disregard the fact that Frank’s already established that there’s one and only Ghidorah in the Neoverse and he ultimately met his end as MKG during the fight with Bagan).

KaijuX In reply to Strikerprime [2020-04-02 16:21:40 +0000 UTC]
Not that I agree with MG City or Void Ghidorah being dumb, as I'd love to see what Matt could do with them, but I do agree that they wouldn't fit. MG City gives too much of a chance at fighting back in what's suppose to be a doomed timeline and, as you said, Matt's already established that there'll only be one true Ghidorah. Keeping G-Earth as a nebulous entity that may or may not exist in the distant future is for the best.

Strikerprime In reply to KaijuX [2020-04-02 17:44:11 +0000 UTC]
Don’t get me wrong, they were both very interesting and unique concepts. They just ended up being poorly executed in the anime films. And I have no doubt Matt Frank could make them look utterly amazing and bestow them the grace and glory they could’ve had.
But yeah, they’re better off being left untouched in the Neoverse given all the established continuity. Same goes with G-Earth remaining some nebulous entity that may or may not end up existing in Earth’s distant future. I just hope the fans on Patreon realize that too when it comes to voting on what he’ll draw next.

Matt, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: you are easily one of my favorite Kaiju artists. Almost everything you’ve posted, I’ve added to my favorites and this is no exception.
I absolutely love your take on Godzilla Earth, showing off the plant aesthetic but still keeping the character recognizable. I also like the inclusion of clouds to show off the scale. Also the Servum’s are a nice touch as well.

That might sound strange, but I really like that you've included clouds to the picture. It gives him a sense of scale that would otherwise be difficult to convey. The design itself is also quite nice. While I'm entirely on board with the beard (looks a bit too long for my taste), the redesign of the legs as tree stumps is quite clever. Great work

I've just contributed to your Patreon. While I don't have that much money, I'll be more than happy to support you. Godzilla Neo helped me through a tough time back in 2007 after my mother died. The talks with you, the back and forth of ideas for this project, really helped me through this. So I will support you as long as I can.
