There is a name whispered in the darkest corners of the universe...a name which, when uttered, makes many a lifeform quake with fear or quickly turn away, covering what passes for ears. This name belongs to a creature so powerful, so frightening, so infamous for its sheer destructive nature that those who know of it either cower from its visage or worship it as the great God of Destruction, the King of Terror, the Planet Killer...KING GHIDORAH.
No one knows just where the monstrosity originated. Some speak of its home being an ancient and terrible place which many cultures describe as an equivalent to Hell or Hades, while others say that it was forged by beings far beyond anything we humans could comprehend. Some say it has simply always been....always moving from planet to planet, destroying it utterly, wiping the slate clean to the point that no new life will ever arise. The Omega to the Alpha of a planet's birth. Whatever the reason or cause, King Ghidorah one day decided to set its six eyes on a tiny blue and white sphere at the edge of a small galaxy in a dark pocket of the cosmos, 65 million years ago in our insignificant terran time.
Landing on our world, Ghidorah sought to ravage it, tearing apart the land and killing all of the animals who called Earth their home. Unfortunately for the beast, Ghidorah encountered something that it never thought would amount to anything: resistance. The mighty deity of the planet, GIGAMOTH, attempted to drive away the monster, something Ghidorah was all too familiar with. Through some bizzarre twist of fate, it managed to actually drive away Ghidorah, but not before thousands of dinosaurs were killed, and the sky, land and sea rendered all but inhospitable, and the god itself ripped asunder into two beings, MOTHRA and BATTRA. Despite their newfound animosity for one-another, new life would arise, and that at least a few of the valiant dinosaurs would live on to carry their heritage into the future, watching over the new, furry creatures that would one day take dominion of the world.
Of course....Ghidorah would not be so easily defeated. Oh no, not by a long shot. It would return to this little world, one that it had gained something that it had never experienced before: CONTEMPT. This world would not just die. It would be erased as though it were a speck of dirt on the tiniest scale, and woe be to whatever foolish creature that stood in its way.
....One giant saurian would take that personally.
Abilities/Aspects:
- Armored scales resistant to ALL forms of weaponry, nuclear or otherwise
- Body controlled by huge nervous system in chest, and central head controls the other two
- Can generate and fire Gravity Bolts from all three mouths
- Body seemingly capable of living forever
- Charges energy from solar power collected in wings
- Can overpower the minds of lesser creatures
- Blood has similar mutagenic effects as Godzilla's...in fact the two creatures share oddly similar DNA...

I read the critique on how Ghidorah looked too insect like and how the heads don't seem to match Ghidorah that well.
I kind of agree: after all this IS Godzilla's most famous adversary. I think what kinda throws me off is the wings and how the legs are inverted. If Ghidorah was ging to be resdeisgned this much you might have changed the wings as well to make him look more original for the design. (This design seems more reminiscent of Bahamut designs.)
Still it's very awesome. But I suppose out of all the Kaiju I've seen in your gallery; Ghidorah sticks out as something else almost un-Ghidorah like. Not that that's bad it's a great design. I'm just speaking out as one who recognizes him as Godzilla's most famous adversary.

Just because when Godzilla comes across Ghidorah (in the Neoverse, anyway), it's because of two things:
1 - Godzilla has allies to work with. Ex: Rodan and the Mothra Larva twins.
2 - Ghidorah is STILL recharging after his battle with Gigamoth 65 million years ago.

Nice one of KG. I always felt bad for him, he NEVER WINS, even in GMK when he's the good guy!! I imagine his life would be like:
*phone rings, 3:00 AM, Ghidorah picks up*
"Unhh, who is it?"
"It's me, Gigan! Rise and shine buddy!"
"Oh, for pete's sake, do you know what time it is?"
"Yeah, about that, me and the Xillians were thinking of going to take over earth, wanna come?"
"No, I just want to sleep."
"Come on, man! Godzilla's trapped in a volcano! It'll be easy! And we need your car to get us there."
"Ugh, fine...."
*Ghidorah shows up on planet X, Gigan isn't there, and Godzilla and Rodan kick the crap out of him.*
...and then he goes home and not only has Gigan been sitting on his couch all day drinking his beer and watching Pay Per View, he stole his girlfriend's phone number. Gah!

Okay, now pleas don't get mad, but when I saw your series 1 and noticed that Mecha-King Ghidora was absent I decided to use this picture as a base and draw my own. I would gladly send you the skech so you can endow it with your magic touch, and take credit for somthing that was really yours to start with, If I only had a blasted scanner.

Ever since I saw the three-headed, golden, bell-voiced freak in one of those old Godzilla movies, I thought it was bloody awesome in it's own special way.

Yes, he does. But I'm not sure how Matt would pull it off without making the head design look akward/cluttered. Ghidorah's horns need to feel more like, well, horns and less like antennae. Still love the design though.

Well, I already critiqued this one, but I recall hearing you hadn't gotten a chance to read it yet, and I'm bored, sooo...
I'm sorry to say, this is the one that kind left the series on a bad note for me. While there were only four designs I really disliked - one of them due to incredible personal bias - The fact that this was the last one kindof threw me off.
My main gripes here are that it looks too insect-like(and believe me, I feel dirty saying THAT), it's not really imposing enough, and... honestly, I think it tries a bit too hard to impress. The scrawniness is clearly intended to make it looks sleek and imposing, but what it winds up doing is making him look like a pushover. King Ghidorah has always been firm, solid and massive. His stumpy legs made him feel more powerful, and he wasn't the least bit humanoid so a heavy waist never hurt his design. It too made him appear more massive. And to me, mass is FAR more imposing and frightening than sleekness.
Now I know this isn't intended to be better than the original, but I honestly just plain don't think it works for the character. King Ghidorah is an imposing, mysterious force, and I don't find something so scantily built to be particularly imposing.
While I do admire the use of the crescent-horn, I'm not the least bit fond of the singular tail. I mean, giving King Ghidorah one tail is like giving Gigan hands. I know it's a redesign, but King Ghidorah's two tails are one of his most distinctive features, and taking it away just takes away a part of what makes him him.
My last gripe is PURE personal preference, but I'd really like to have seen him given his classic hairdo.
Now I DO like the story. I like seeing him as some mysterious stranger from space. Not a demon, not an animal, not a bio-weapon, just an entity. No remote clue to his origin.
I just don't think the design is particularly effective for that story.

Great to know someone else liked Ghi's hair from the Showa series, and I must agree about the tail, To this date he's the only monster with a forked rutter. ^_^
That was one of the huge givaways that "Monster X" was gonna end up Ghidorah before the credits rolled. Seriously, did they actually think such a see-through design was gonna work?
My friend was like, "OMG! I bet you anything that's really Ghidorah!"
My cruely cold response, "Ya think?"
Love the wings, finally a pair that looks strong enough to actually hold him up! And in closing, don't be so hard on yourself. I feel all the Mothra series redesigns were too bulky. Some day someone will figure out a happy medium, and it'll probably be you!

I agree, but I still LOVE the design. I think Matt was trying to gofor more of a "Grim Reaper" feel for the wings, not an insectoid feel. Your right about the tail though, but it does add some interestong parallels to Monster X. I like the story too.
P.S: Matt has updated the design to be bulkier and he made the wings more like those on the Uchusen redesign of KG. What do you think about this upgrade?
