Slowed its decomposition? Those are wounds! There's still blood in them! I get the impression that the body was in superb condition prior to this thing's last battle.
Actually, it looks like the designer used actual post-battle crocodiles as a reference. They have a tendency to tear flesh off their opponents in exactly the same way. Maybe she was killed by another croc and the magic kept her blood flowing?
