Huge file warning! This is my "shortlist" project of why English bird names are confusing, to say the least!
Green: name of the bird genera in English and Latin. Scientific names are NOT the only genera containing bird species named- rather, they are just an example.
Yellowish: a species with 2 genus names mashup. Full scientific name is provided for those.
Blue: other animal used in the English bird name.
If you feel like something's missing, feel free to comment! Full size available for download- though I must warn you, it's quite large wide.
I don't claim it's complete- if anything, it's still very far from that! The amount of genera in this file would easily be doubled or tripled in size just by adding Wood-, Ground-, Color- or Non-avian-species prefixes. (Which, I admit, was my original plan, but I monstrosity of the task overwhelmed me. For now, at least.)
Trying to make this into somehow concise "map" without lines overlap too much was a very steep learning curve. Of course, there is still LOT of room for improvement!
