Description
When your power depends on the proximity to a particular cosmic phenomenon, you better make sure to stay close to it.
Consequently, at any given time about a fifth of The Hive's bodies are busy keeping The Outer Planetoid in a fixed position. All across The Continent they gather on mountain tops to re-direct the energies towards the central peak and into the ground, counteracting the impact of the radiation from That Which Changes and the gravitational pull of The Central Star.

This scene was done in Blender, rendered with the Cycles engine and edited in GIMP.
I'm not entirely happy with how that came out - getting the particle clouds to look right was a huge challenge, and I spent quite some time messing around in GIMP to soften and re-color the glow. And now the glow is blocking the scenery around them and making the composition look kind of messy. Oh well.

Still, it does feel like an improvement compared to a similar scene I did before.
