The contrast of the two characters being light and dark emphasize the theme of struggle. The red eyes and the white scarf for the character in white, stand out because of all the white. This also emphasizes the hilt if the katana and the detail of the katana guard. and its sheath. The white haired character's shirt billowing up combined with the unsheathed katana pointed down emphasize a sense of movement while the wrinkles of the charters shirt emphasize this. The water surrounding the character in white creates a soothing and peaceful effect, conveying a protagonist vibe, in contrast to the character in the back. The character in the backs black winds combined with he animal skull on his head, really contrast from the character in white by emphasising a dark quality. The black hair, an almost psudo smirk and the sideways glance of a red eye emphasize an antagonistic quality. The dark sky and lightning also emphasize the character with the black hair's personality. The black haired character's ribbon with red beads and the kanji on his arm help to cut up and fill space adding an interesting the kanji, in particular emphasizes the bird like quality to him. The way half of the sky is dark and the other is light also really conveys a battle between these two characters. What kind of materials did you use; watercolor and colored pencil? What inspired you to do an illustration of a clash of light and dark?

I use watercolor for this. I simply want to draw something to illustrate the contrast between light and dark, but in harmony in the same time.

I've been wondering about your way of scanning. Do you double scan and lay them on top of one another (with changed transparency) or do you scan them normally?

I just scan my art work normally and then use Photoshop to adjust the brightness/contrast
