Description

The Spear is a command center, barracks, and assault ship for New Republic SpecForces developed as a joint project between New Republic Intelligence and Special Forces from the System Control Ship concept. The concept was put forward by Admiral Adar Tallon in 7 ABY for a cheaper, lower capability warship to take on escort duties or low-intensity conflicts to free up more high-end capital warships for frontline combat.

The ship was completed in the Gyndine Shipyards with assistance from engineers involved in the Assault Frigate modification program. It features the bow section from a disabled Imperial Nebulon-B2 frigate melded to the hull of a destroyed Imperial Light Carrier and topped by the bridge tower of a scrapped Acclamator assault ship.

It features a large command center and can embark a SpecForces company (114 troops) for extended operations or assaults. It can support a wing of 74 fighters or host up to four light freighter class ships.

I have come to dislike my Redemption and Reconciliation designs. They feel kind of like chickenshit, rehashes of my original Echo design, which I really love. Even the descriptions for the other two felt pretty lame. Some other Rebels thought the Echo was cool, so they built their own. Boring. Spear, however, is an awesome design, and I think it is shares enough with Echo while still being its own unique ship. I love it. Now, I need to get it printed and painted.

I will say that the Imperial Light Carrier does make sense. I just do not like Disney’s continued and blatant erasure of the Expanded Universe. Things like this and naming a tabletop game Shatterpoint so that when you search that name online you get their product instead of the outstanding book by Matthew Stover, that is some underhanded BS. The ship will always be Flurry of the Virgillian Free Alliance. Captain Manchisco and her crew died as heroes, victims of appalling treachery, defeating the ruthless Ssi-Ruuk and saving the galaxy from a horrific fate. Their story does not deserve to be forgotten.
