Okay... More prototypes!! Hurray!!
I really love these ones, the boxes are so colourful! And they are still in very good condition considering that they are 20 years old!!
As usual, these are prototypes made in 1994, made of resin and hand painted by Mattel artists for licensing approval ^^ As you can see the earlier versions of the packaging were much more colourful than the actual ones! I like these better...
The colours on the figures are not perfect, of course, they were just supposed to e examples ^^
As you can see I have:
-Simba action figure
-Mufasa w/ baby Simba
-Nala and Zazu
Nala's face looks creepy! XD She reminds me so much of Zira, if you download the image or zoom it at fullsize you'll see
These sets are wonderful, perfect conditions and even the boxes are in great shape
(In my gallery you can see some other prototypes I recently got ^^)

Woa! I didn't knew they made prototypes of toys out of resin, someone handpainted it and then they package and someone can actually buy one! Very cool!

Well, they make a project, cast it in resin, handpaint it and if it gets approved they use it to make moulds for the actual toys I guess...
And the same is for the packages, they try different types until they get the final one...
They are not aviable for the public, I got them from ebay and I think that the seller works or used to work for Mattel because he has many other Mattel stuff for sale (like HotWheels)... I was lucky! :3 I also got a Mufasa that was never approved (and so never produced) so it's unique! :3

Oh I understand, but the fact is you got it, and it isn't in a museum or something like this.

These must be the first versions because the back of the packages is blank... I'd like to get the later versions too, I saw on collector's quest a Scar and Mufasa prototypes with another kind of package (very similar to the 'real' one) :3

Before finding my lot I knew there were only two prototypes that I think can occasionally be found on the net: Mattel Scar and Mattel Mufasa.

I think that these two can be found with a lot of luck on ebay 'cause I saw them in another collection other than the one above... And I think I saw Mufasa on ebay many many years ago, but I didn't know how rare he was D: Maybe he's one of those, maybe not... I still hope to find them X3

Oh, yeah, the top left figures are other protypes X3 I'll post them in the next days, some of them looks just cheaply handpainted figures but... well... They are still kinda cute XD Rafiki and Pumbaa are the 'worst', I have a couple of hyenas and some action figures ^^
