I only grow it in because I have a lot of relatives, mostly female, and they are all obnoxiously affectionate, but when I have my full beard on, they tend to keep a safe distance.

You're lucky, it wouldn't be so bad, except they greet me like I've been off to war and haven't seen me in years, they live just three blocks down and we see each other every other day. I keep getting told I'm gonna miss it when they're gone, but for now, it's just a headache.

I mean, I know where it's coming from, but at the same time, it feels like if you derive some sort of pleasure out of you're friends misery, something is wrong here.

I don't think it's about pleasure it's about an empathetic response and feeling less alone in a situation by being made aware others are in similar circumstances and there for making a situation seem less isolating or negative to know there are others who would be there to understand

That's not necessarily a bad thing, often times its better to see the most angles you can than take something at face value then you can be prepared for any eventuality
