Considering I grew up watching all the good stuff produced in the 80s and 90s and having had suffered through the rehashed garbage of the past decade that just eats and nibbles on the good stuff for inspiration I'd say its more or less true. Worse yet, the series that're good to begin with and then outpace their original source material and throw in random story arcs that are filler material while the real meat of the story is produced manga side... because there is nothing worse than watching non-canonical material that fucks up the entire flow of a series.
But here's a list of movies and series worth the effort (I have watched waaaay more than these series/movies but these are the ones that warrant talking about because they're good rather than crap)
Ghost in the Shell ('95)
Ninja Scroll ('93)
The Pat Labor Movies 1 and 2
Tenchi Muyo! OVA (up until episode 13.5 / 14 depending on how you count where that episode fits in the series, as well as the Universe rendition and the associated movies that tag along for the joyride with them)
Jin-Roh ('99)
From the Gundam Series: 08th MS Team, Zeta and Wing respectively
Neon Genesis Evangelion
The Slayers
Cowboy Bebop
Akira ('88)
Royal Space Force ('87)
Memories Triple Feature ('95) (specifically Magnetic Rose and Stink Bomb)
Outlaw Star
Some of the .HACK// series, but specifically the older stuff like .HACK//SIGN
Berserk
Bastard!!
Last Exile
Trigun
FLCL
Basilisk (even though it is more or less just Ninja Scroll turned into a protracted anime, it is worth the time)

Full Metal Panic and Full Metal Panic: Second Raid (although 2nd Raid is much better and has less random filler episodes and is story driven the whole time)
Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi (while entirely retarded it being produced by gainax is magnificent in destroying how you perceive all other animes, movies, and popular culture so for that it is wonderful, it also highlights some things that appear in future animes by them that hadn't been produced yet at the time through some subtle and not so subtle references)
Dragonball and Dragonball Z (plus the associated movies from that time period)
Lupin III (specifically the old-school movies)
InuYasha (until it got gay as fuck after a few seasons)
Blood The Last Vampire ('00)
Rurouni Kenshin (series and the movie although there are some holdouts and reservations on this)
Full Metal Alchemist (was better in it's second incarnation where its more true to its source material)
and of course
more or less anything directed by Miyazaki.
This constitutes about 3% (around 1100 or so) of the anime series I've had the misfortune of watching or even giving a try (series, movies and movies associated with a series)

Actually it is, because out of the 1100 odd series I've seen only about 50+ of them are worth it and that is including stand alone movies, series and movies associated with series. Considering there are roughly 4000 different anime series, movies, ovas, etc out there... it probably keeps the same average of what is good and what isn't good. Although given how cheaply produced and unthought out the stories of modern stuff are, maybe we shouldn't look at all of them compared of a list of "good ones" because it might be even more pathetic than 5%.

So you're going to ignore historical documents that are right in front of you? That clearly explain not just Jewish and Christian history but as well there is records in Roman history. There is proof of the prophecies, the bible is a collection of manuscripts that have been past down from maybe thousands of generation it is easily and no argument needed, the oldest history book in the world. Christianity is even older then Islam.
