This story took place about 23 years ago. Turmeric was about 7 years old.

It was almost Career Day at school, which was the day where all the grade 2 students think about what they'd like to be when they grow up, and share it with the class. Turmeric thought and thought about what he wanted to do. He liked nature, so maybe he could be a park ranger. Or maybe a farmer, or a zookeeper. There were just so many options.

Turmeric was in his room playing with some of his stuffed animals, when he noticed that his teddy bear, which he called Mr. Bear, had a small rip in his arm. Turmeric felt bad about the hole in Mr. Bear's arm, exposing his stuffing. Because he was still a little young to use a needle and thread, he'd have to find a temporary solution until Mom, who was working at that moment, could stitch Mr. Bear back up.

Turmeric went into the kitchen, opened up the "junk drawer", and found a roll of masking tape. Turmeric thought it would be perfect to use as a bandage, so he asked Dad if he could use some of it, and when Dad said yes, he took the tape into his room and wrapped Mr. Bear's arm with the tape. It looked just like Mr. Bear had been to the doctor's office, and had his arm professionally bandaged.

Later, Mom came home from work, and after she hugged and greeted all her kids, Turmeric brought Mr. Bear to her and took the tape off.
TURMERIC: Mom, Mr. Bear has a hole in his arm. I held it closed with this tape, but can you please fix him for me?
MOM: Sure I can. I'll patch him up right after dinner. Luckily, he seems to be doing alright until then with this bandage you gave him. You did a nice job with it. You'd make a great doctor.
TURMERIC: "looks at the bandage" Hmm, yeah! It does look good, and I liked helping Mr. Bear feel better. Maybe I could be a doctor. Or an animal doctor! Then I could help animals like Catnip feel better!
MOM: Yes! That would be a great job for you!

That was it! Turmeric knew what he wanted to do his Career Day presentation on. He asked his parents to help him cut veterinarian-themed pictures out of old magazines to stick to his poster, and he wrote information on it about what vets do, and why he wants to be one. On Career Day, he did his presentation, and the whole class loved it, and agreed that it was the right career choice for him.

Fast forward to today, Dr. Turmeric is now officially a veterinarian working in his own animal hospital, helping animals of all shapes and sizes feel better, and making their owners happy, too. Turmeric loves his job, and everyone is happy for him for finding the perfect profession.
