Dill and Dawn had only met a couple months ago at that point, but their friendship started growing more and more, until it became clear that Dill was starting to develop feelings for her. At one point, while they were on their way out of the cafeteria after having lunch with the rest of their friend group, Dill pulled her aside and asked Dawn if she wanted to go to the local cafe with him, just the two of them. Dawn agreed to it, liking Dill's funny, cheerful personality.

The day of their date came. They both had the day off from classes, so they had plenty of time to spend together. They met up at the cafe, ordered their drinks and a couple of treats, and sat at one of the tables. As they ate their pastries and sipped their drinks, they started chatting.

DILL: So, what drink did you get again?
DAWN: A clover cappuccino! I make a similar one at home in the morning before classes, to keep me awake!
DILL: It smells good! I'd ask for a sip, but I can't have caffeine this late in the day. Otherwise, my entire body will be going a mile a minute all night! And I'm a sleepwalker, so that would not be good!
DAWN: Yeah, no kidding!
DILL: I just got a biscotti brew. It's nice and flavourful, and surprisingly decaf! It's nice if you want something sweet that won't keep you up all night!
DAWN: Nice!

DILL: So have you decided what you wanted to do after you graduate?
DAWN: Oh, I was thinking maybe an office job, or a secretary position. Something where I can put my organization skills to the test, but not too demanding!
DILL: Oh yeah, a good work/life balance is good! Of course, for me, I love being around lots of people, and making their days brighter. That's why I want to be a nurse, so I can see lots of people, and help put smiles on their faces during difficult times.
DAWN: Yeah, definitely! Do you know what field you want to work in?
DILL: Oh, definitely pediatrics if I can! Nothing beats the sunny smile on a child's face!
DAWN: Oh, I agree! Kids are great!
DILL: Absolutely! And I can't wait to have some of my own one day!

That's when Dawn paused for a bit, but then knew she had to tell him right away.

DAWN: Umm, Dill, there's something I think you should know about me, and I'm sorry if it's a dealbreaker for you.
DILL: "looks concerned" Oh? What is it?
DAWN: Well.. I had a hysterectomy when I was 15 'cause I had bad fibroids. I can't have kids, even though I really want kids someday too!
DILL: "relieved" Oh, is that all?

He then realized that what he just said sounded really insensitive.

DILL: Wait, no, I didn't mean it like that! What I meant was that I thought you were gonna say that you had a crazy ex or something! I'm really sorry that happened to you, and that's in no way a dealbreaker!
DAWN: I kinda figured that's what you meant.
DILL: Well, I still apologize. And remember, there's plenty of options if we- I mean, you, ever decide to have kids. And from what I've seen, any kid would be super lucky to have you as their mom!
DAWN: Aww, thanks! I'm just glad I told you this right away!
DILL: Yeah, it's good to be honest from the very start. That's how relationships stay strong, through honesty and trust. At least, that's what my parents always say.
DAWN: Oh, I agree. And don't be afraid if you ever have to tell me something important.
DILL: Well, there is one thing..
DAWN: What's that?
DILL: "smiling" I just wanna say thanks a LATTE for BEAN such a great friend! I can't ESPRESSO my gratitude enough!
DAWN: "laughs" Oh, Dill!

They shared a laugh, and had a great first date. The second date went well, too! And so did every other date that followed until before they knew it, they were married with 3 beautiful kids, thanks to adoption, and their surrogate, Dawn's twin sister Diane. They couldn't be more happy with their lives, and it's all because of the love and trust they both put into the relationship!
