Description
Long before they were contacted, the kisek of the Sa Basin looked to the stars for messages left from their precursors. These precursors were believed to have inhabited the previous world, before its destruction and recreation, and all the worlds that existed before it. Nowadays, with spaceflight a frequent reality, and stars more places to visit than mere fixtures in the night sky, the cosmic microwave background has replaced the role the stars once had. New beliefs developed, and spread among other species, that time is cyclical in nature, and that the civilisations of each cycle leave messages in the CMB for the next to read by manipulating the conditions of the following big bang. This is seen as the only way to escape from the endless cycle of repetition, and to instead grow and improve each time. Since each cycle repeats almost exactly the same at first, these messages can provide insight into the future. The reference frame at which the CMB exhibits no redshift is considered one of particular spiritual significance. At such a frame of reference, the original messages are unaltered. That it's easy enough to correct for doesn't change its significance, with certain physical phenomena, such as the behaviour of hyperstreams, pointed to as evidence of this frame being unique in some way. It is not uncommon for practitioners of this religion to erect temples moving at the cosmic rest frame.
The image above depicts a scene on one such temple. The temple is built into an asteroid travelling through interstellar space, rotating to simulate gravity around its circumference. Here, most of the living space is located, with different habitats for the various species that inhabit it, as well as communal areas and libraries. Close to the centre of rotation, however, there are a number of observation domes. The dome ceiling and windows are transparent only from the inside, and change microwaves around the frequency of the CMB into visible light (actually near UV to near IR) so it can be viewed by its occupants. Light from stars is also selectively removed. The poles gradually change angle to cover a larger viewing area, but they're still kept very stationary relative to the cosmic rest frame. As the inertia here is, as a result, very minimal, magnetic clothing is worn to stay on a single surface. Traditionally this will be the surface opposite the viewing dome, simulating a planet-bound observatory.
