Description
"Decay"Oil on Canvas
2014
This image is for my painting final. The concept is that of needing to live symbiotically with our surroundings, otherwise we will inevitably self destruct and harm others in the process. It could relate to the environment, or be much broader. I'll let you decide
Visually speaking, I imagine a whole heard of these deer creatures playing host to healthy city-like growths. At a certain point the growths take over and the relationship stops being one of balance and turns to that of a parasitic relationship. Maybe the growths can survive on their own for a certain time after the death of the deer, but at a certain point they too will whither and die away without the deer as a host organism.

How ugly & unfortunate for this beast! the style is creepy for this scene. Good work.

I love this, the color is beautiful and dramatic. The way that the buildings look like they've infested the deer, the bleeding out through a pipe. How the fungus grow on it's corpse like the buildings. The only critique and it's really...REALLY reaching I know, is I would of chosen an animal which we've been a detriment to. Surprisingly, we've been good for the white tail it's population has gone up in our presence, I know...it's reaching. lol beautiful work and I couldn't agree more with the message.

This is certainly unique, not what I'd call a 'good' work outright; I don't say it isn't a reflection of your talent. I just mean it's more evocative than it is a work meant for pleasure.

That is how decay works. It reminds of "Then when everything is gone they'll notice they can't eat money".

That thing is common we always destroy or kill them one by one slowly. we didn't think of nature. human destroyed forest and jungle. So it is not strange

indeed, it looks weird, but makes total sense, and shows humankind destroying nature in such a unique way

So true, you captured just the right feeling with this symbolic piece. I particularly like the bending buildings on the deer's side -- it somehow brings plants to mind but replace that with construction work.

City of Detroit? Although I hear there are a lot of people working hard to bring Detroit back to life. The CEO of Quicken Loans and CompuServe is one.

Metal? Sorry but I've never seen that word used that way. Why "metal"? Is it like saying hardcore? Or different.

Yeah, it basically means Awesome or Hardcore.

I assume that you're familiar with "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind?" At least that's what this painting tells me.

I'm usually not a fan of the more symbolic art, as it often comes off as pretentious and redundant. HOWEVER, here it's not only well executed, but surprisingly clever to boot! I dare even argue that even Orson Welles would be jealous of this kind of work! I sense you'll be going very far with something like this!
