Description
Oh snap! Looky here guys, a pseudo follow up to Best Ever... ! What a sellout! Not really, I was looking to revisit some old characters today, in addition to wanting to do a more realized sketch than the last few pieces have been since I had a bit more time today. Back when ~FoxFire5 and I were seriously looking into extrapolating the basic sketch into a full on world/series the girl on the right garnered herself the name Ashley. It was a very cool wg-centric themed storyline that I'd like to get back into at some point, you might ask FoxFire about it as well if you're keen to know more.
Anyhow, as it so happens Ashley had a ritual of sorts for the end of every semester. As she had a tendency to go through a few uniforms during a semester, on her final day of term she'd take out her uniform from the first day to see how it fit... usually not too well.

The stuff of which my dreams are made! I had always hoped you might follow up to that unbelievable one-off. I'm glad to see her outgrowing her uniform...that's always a good sign. AND I'm excited at how much great art the "SADC" has created! Every drawing you make is a distinct step forward, and this one is no exception, especially the line art.
So...will we receive an update on her friend on the right...the one endowed with the awesome belly!? I am anxious!

I love this one.
Hey, what do you use to color, and what techniques do you use to do it?

My coloring lately is done entirely in openCanvas right after the inking step.
Regardless of whether i'm doing the cel-shade stuff or the painterly shading I lay down the flat base colors first. If I'm doing the cel shading the next part is easy, just dupliacte the flats layer and set it to multiply and erase all but where I want shadows.
Highlights are added with an additive layer.
With the Painterly stuff I usually pick a lighter color and brush it on slowly, then pick a darker color to work the shadows after the first bit of creating volume on the form. Usually then another lighter color and another darker color. After that I'll take one of the mid-tones and apply light pressure over areas where the different tones come together to even it out a bit. Sharp highlights, if any, come after that, but on the same layer.
There's a few blurs I use once it's done and in photoshop to keep crisp but not jagged lines and smooth it into the colors a bit better.

Yeah, I thought you used that. Is that a program that you have to pay for(Where can I get it)? Cause the cell shading it makes looks really nice, it's not hard lined like how I do with photoshop, it has a smooth blend effect that gives it so much character and dimension.

I got the last free version of openCanvas (it IS pay now for the later commercial versions), but there should still be download links online. Just look up openCanvas version 1.1 in Google. I got MY copy from ~ramzkun , though.
