'The Empire' Universe Lore Bit #1:

In this civilized society, it's inappropriate for lionesses to give birth alone. Not only is it seen as suspicious (i.e. the new mother not trusting her Pride, or having something to hide), it's also seen as "uncivilized". Only rogues or those trying to hide their pregnancy for whatever reason choose to give birth alone. It's highly stigmatized in their society, and those around tend to be wary of the family. Normally it's just the mother and the child, but sometimes the father can also be left up to scrutiny. If the father should so happen to hold a position of power, they may be shamed into stepping down. Though in some circumstances, the father is able to avoid scrutiny altogether.
