Description
more Narnia fanart!!! I actually started this a few months ago, back while I was actually reading through the series. This is Shasta (Cor) and Aravis, from The Horse and His Boy. I've just always loved their personalities and how they interact, how snotty Aravis is and how clueless Shasta is.
Pencil lineart, colored and textured in Photoshop. The sandy texture is from [link] and the brushstroke texture is mine.

Thank you so much, Kecky! A very good friend introduced the song to me, but it has it's own meaning for me: my love for the King of Kings...

i have NEVER seen art of these characters from this particular book and so i bow down to you for drawing them. i love their personalities and interactions and how they eventually forget their differences in the end and become friends. you did such a great job with their expressions, they fit in so well with the early part of the story when they first run into each other. gahhh i'm so glad i found thiissss...

Thank you! You really should just get a nice illustrated edition... my drawings are wayy too influenced by Pauline Baynes' original illustrations anyway.

Really nice colours I've always wondered, how do you make one of those textured brushstrokes?

Kecky In reply to 2beats [2007-01-09 01:56:35 +0000 UTC]
For the border, I used some brushes that I downloaded from some website I can't remember. But there are plenty of brush websites that would probably have the same ones. For the image itself, I painted all over a piece of paper, then scanned it in and pasted it all over the image.

Kecky!!
I love you so much! When i read the title and opened the deviation I almost CRIED and i'm not lying! This is beautiful! You dont know how much I've searched the internet for The Horse and His Boy fan art...it was my favourite! I mean the book has that feel to it where if you're too young and you're just starting out you really have to give yourself time to warm to it, and I used to skip it and go straight onto the next one, but once you've read it you start to learn and appreciate the skill and magic and just profound greatness that is C.S. LEWIS. You doing this has just brought back so many memories...it all came flodding back as soon as I saw this!
The drawing is so beautiful! I love the textures you've used and the colours...the colours really give it that dessert/Arabian feel that is Colerman. I love the expression on Shasta's face...I always imagined him like that...the boy who hates to be second to a girl..ha! At least at first. And Aravis looks gorgeous, you can tell she thinks she's better than him already!
I'm so looking forward to the rest of your little Narnian fanart! The Magicians Nephew and ll of that
! Congrats on this! It's much loved
Hope you had a good New Year too

awww! thank you!!! There really is a serious lack of Narnia fanart out there... I've decided it's my mission in life to change that.
I love the Horse and His Boy because it really lets you SEE Narnia - the things that happen there, the culture, the surrounding lands. I mean it's the only book that takes place totally in Narnia, that doesn't involve kids from our world traveling there for a short amount of time and then returning. It makes it all so much more real.
I will try my best to keep 'em coming! The Magician's Nephew is definitely calling my name. It's always been one of my favorites - I love the feel of it so much. I hope I can do it justice.
