XD
a mumust viszont sajnáltam...
yaaaaaaaay...

Neeem-nem-nem-nem, all wrong!

I have a question. What do you like about Turbo? He caused the apocalypse for two games out of envy, put a little girl through hell for about 15 years just to feed his ego, and tried to annihilate the entire arcade once he became the Cy-bug leader. What is there to like about him?"
Seriously, I'm curious.

I just want to speak my opinion on this.
I think he is a well thought-out villian. I mean lets look at some things here. He was a good guy, in his own game, but his major fault was that he had a want to always be in the spotlight, or what I've heard other people calling an "attention whore". And that's true, once another game got plugged in, his jealously got control of him, and he invaded the game so that he could get the attention back. This came with a fatal situation, both games being unplugged, yet Turbo managing to escape death.
So fast forward to him as King Candy. Once he found out that a new racing game got plugged in, he took complete control of that, and became new ruler. I do think that Turbo had originally intended to kill Vaneloppe, but he couldn't, for whatever reason (one which I have yet to figure out).
Putting a very long story short. I love King Candy/Turbo, for the sake that he's a good villian. I don't think he's hot, or anything like that. I just think that writers did a damn good job writing him as a good guy that went basically insane with jealously to turn him into a bad guy.

I also think he's a great villain.
I just worry when people say things like "He deserved to win." He tried to murder a little girl, and then made her life hell! Just because he wanted to be a star at any cost! And that's after all the other horrible things he did.
Who could root for someone like that?

Trust me, I know a few. I love this guy for the sake of him being a good villian.
I think it's just some people love rooting for the villian, most likely reason being that they're the most hard-working, dedicated etc... person in any book/TV/Movie.

Because he's really really hot.
A more serious answer: Because brilliance.
This guy survived two apocalypses. Probably more. We don't know what other games he's invaded. In fact, we don't know a whole lot. What we do know sums up to this:
He has successfully lived a lie for over 15 years. He can change his model. And he can race.
This guy singlehandedly rewrote his own code. He's able to change his looks at will. He's able to lie like hell and think it through, and later on, he's able to simply physically crush his enemies. He's a villain that earned his status, and sort of deserved to win. Being King Candy was only hurting one person - perhaps he was a bit tough on Vanellope, but maybe he wasn't originally. What we see of him trying to delete her code doesn't have a timestamp. Maybe he was nice originally and she insisted on racing. Maybe he was willing to let her live in peace, but she kept trying to race anyway.
The point is we don't know a whole lot. Sure, Turbo can have a temper. But wasn't it a bit, you know, justified? He is finally happy for once in his life, and one rude little kid bent on racing ruins it for him.
Maybe I'm a bit biased, maybe not. And maybe he's evil, maybe not.
Maybe what you've seen is circumstance only.
Maybe not.

Cyberguy64 In reply to Ellenrules [2012-12-18 01:32:09 +0000 UTC]
No. It was most certainly not justified for him to break into Sugar Rush, try to murder it's lead character, and then delegate her to a life of misery for 15 years while he basked in her stolen glory. Especially since the only reason he's in that position is because he already destroyed two other worlds while trying the same trick.
"Deserved to win?" That's pretty scary. Based on what we do know, one sprite caused the apocalypse for two games, whether accidentally or not, and then goes into another game to try again anyway. Then, he re-writes all the characters to lock them out of their true personalities and brainwashes them to abuse the former lead character. And then, fused with a virus, he decides to destroy their entire multiverse! He does all this monstrous stuff, solely to stroke his own, threatened ego, and you feel that this creep "Deserved to win?" I suppose you'd still feel the same way if you were Vanellope, or one of Turbo's co-stars from Turbo Time, or one of the other, countless, innocent people he stomped on to chase his limelight.

"Brilliance, skill, power, and hotness do not excuse completely immoral behavior."
I agree with you 100%.
Demonic people try to make themselves attractive using many characteristics that people like: sexiness, brilliance, cuteness, false innocence, etc. in order to make people "love" them. But, in the end, they don't actually love you, and they would never, ever care about you in real life or give you any emotional consolation back. They hate you. They don't care about you at all. They only care about themselves, and sadly, many people who are desperate for love fall for characters like this, because they themselves are extremely depressed about their love life and are desperate for love, and, therefore, they are easily amazed by these false powers of brilliance or sexiness, and don't have any power over their better judgment to avoid falling into such an abusive relationship. They are willing to live in an abusive relationship, where the "sexy, brilliant" person uses his powers to distract you into giving him attention, and give him what he wants, not because he cares about you, but because you give him what he wants, at your emotional expense. He doesn't care WHO gives him attention, just as long as there's someone to give him praise. You are a toy, merely, a pawn for his pleasure, that, once boring, will be immediately thrown in the trash.
People who like these type of characters live in a delusional fantasy world saying "Oh my God, He is soooooo hot!" or "Oh, he's not really that bad a person! You just have to get to know him!" When really, he would probably rape you, then break your heart in a cruel and cold manner, and throw you in a dumpster. You only imagine good qualities in a character because you secretly know, deep down, that they aren't really there. You can't cope with real life, and the fact that he actually hates you, so you imagine him to be better than he actually is, because honestly, maybe you have never seen or met a decent person in your entire life.
The reason why people "justify" such a character's actions because they themselves don't FEEL the consequences of having a relationship with such a horrible person. They aren't the ones who are having to deal with him being a jerk. They just see someone ELSE having to deal with him being a jerk, not feeling the pain that the characters feel, and instead sympathize with him, saying "Ohhh, he's really not that bad!" But they don't know what it feels like to be murdered. They don't know what it feels like to have their dreams suppressed and crushed for a very long time, to the point of madness and extreme depression. They only see it from a third person perspective, so they don't know how painful these characters really are.

"Brilliance, skill, power, and *shudder* hotness ..."
There's your answer.
That is why he's attractive. Good or evil - or any moral code, for that point - is irrelevant in this particular situation. The allure is there because, despite how badly he treated others, it is entirely possible he can treat someone close to him nice. There is always the possibility someone like him would be suited for higher forms of romance.
Someone like him, who has strayed so far from friendly relations, would make a relationship meaningful. The feeling of "I was the one person who got close to him." is a rather attractive one.
However, going back to my original point:
I like bad boys. I like dangerous people who, despite denying every form of contact, need someone to love. I want to be that one girl who got close to him.
The bad guys are always the one that got away for all the fangirls.
They don't show love in the movies. That doesn't mean they aren't capable of it. It just means it is more of a challenge to get close - and it feels more rewarding when you do.
Your question could easily be compared to the classic "Why do good girls like bad boys?" The answer is good girls want to be bad. How better to be bad than to be bad with someone else?

So basically, you approve of omnicide, attempted-murder, and mental enslavement just because the monster who committed all of it was supposedly attractive?
You terrify me.
Also, Turbo's key character point is his ego. He cares for nobody but himself. You can see in the way he treats other people, they're just a means to an end. How does that play out in your fantasy relationship? Or do you just gloss over all that and just imagine his "attractive" side?

Yes.
I'm glad. You should check out my art, you'll see how I see him.
Ego is also not very relevant. Again, just because he treats people like that doesn't mean he treats _all_ people like that. The chance is what's attractive (besides the pudgy body and corpse-like skin).

I think originally he was a good guy, and he turned bad because people started to forget him, and that was bothering him. I can see why he did what he did. And I think that if the games and the people would have give him another chance, maybe he could be good again. Besides he is a good character, too bad that he showed up so rarely in the movie... (as his original form) So, I can see the good guy he was, behind his mad, bad guy he has become.

I dunno. He didn't seem all that nice before going nuts either, being a jerk to his co-stars and such. I'd be more willing to give him a sympathetic point of view if he didn't go right back to ruining games after he saw what happened the last time he meddled selfishly.

Key word in that sentence: Acted. It was all for show. When he's not in front of his subjects, he's a jerk to everyone, and he quite obviously (But convincingly) lies to Ralph in order to get him to wreck the kart. He's a very good actor, but he's an egotistical jerk who only cares about his own benefit underneath the facade.

I can understand wanting to redeem the villain. I've seen some ideas where there are other Turbos who aren't evil like Litwax's one. I read a fanfic where Vanellope ended up in another game collection where her counterpart was evil and had locked up that version of Turbo. It was pretty funny, because she didn't trust Nice Turbo and he said "You'd think I was the one with the evil twin."
