We have reached the Woodside Apartments. Climbing to the Second Floor; you are face with a blocked trash chute in the laundry room of the building as we know it will be important later.

As we head east (according to the map) we are lead to Room 205. This being the only lone Lying Figure within the hallway. For me I leave it alone seeing that there is no point killing it; seeing it will disappear in a few minutes anyway.

Exploring Room 205 you encounter two things. At least according to what we see at first. Though there are a few more things that are easily overlooked. We will focus on the main three: The Camera Angle, Mary's Clothes and the Flashlight.

I know your first thought "The Camera Angle? Get real." Well.. I see significance in a few of them in the game and this is one of them. Yes, it's common to lead the Player (s) or to point out how to advance in any game, but I think how Silent Hill 2 does this is representing itself as a character.

The flashlight. No whining on this one and no "why are you discussing about this" line. There is no symbolism with Heather's or Harry's flashlight other than helping you with certain parts with the game. They are only acquired in Cafe 5to2 in Silent Hill 1 and the Otherworld Version of the Central Square Shopping Center in Silent Hill 3. There is; (why would this be a surprise anyway) symbolism behind James's Flashlight.

James's Flashlight not only plays an "illuminating" factor, but also plays as a panicking source later in the game. This will be detailed in another part.

The flashlight can be represented in more than one way in James's Scenario. Symbolism behind light is common, but for the paper I am to list them here as well. The list is as follows: Rebirth, Cleansing, Safety, Goal (s), and Purity (which well associates with both Rebirth and Cleansing).

With James staring at the light, you are foreshadowed by Mary's Clothes in the middle of the room. This brings light to Mary, forcing to have James confront the troubles of his mind. Starting with this, we are now diving into his past. Why else would we be in Silent Hill? On vacation? (Sorry to pick on you Harry, but your vacation wasn't much of a vacation.)

What I am going to note is interesting enough. That the radio will NOT detect the Mannequin Monster on the ground until you gather your flashlight. Upon small glace, yes it is the first confirmation with the Mannequin. With James's light, this also brings to view of the room around him. This I shall call the "Regret" Room.

You will find that James will comment on the Clothes that are found in the center of the room and the mannequin legs on the sofa. You can also tell that James is hoping they aren't real, which they clearly aren't (even though it would be more disturbing if they were). For now, we leave that a mystery and the connection James is trying to make with his thoughts.

Call it odd, but I strangely find the sewing machine on the right wall more important, however, I wish to detail Mary's Clothing a bit more (other than make movie references). We know this resembles Mary, James knows it resembles Mary. By now I know James must be thinking it's more than a bit coincidental. I know there isn't much to say, but I want to believe that by now James is questioning.

I know that most of you are laughing at me because I found the sewing machine important and James didn't. If James ever had a look, I know he just gave me one, but even I find interesting conclusions in the smaller things in the room than James. So bare with me on this one. Don't be "why do you find the sewing machine important while James clearly doesn't" statement. I will explain!

Why would there be a sewing machine that clearly made Mary's Clothes be that important? Examine the Clothes, Mannequin Legs and the Flashlight given to James. Wouldn't you want to think  or believe that the sewing machine at the -very- least symbolizes James been given a second chance to "sew" everything together? That even the town knows he must heal through the traumatizing experience he forced himself to forget?

I don't know. Maybe I am over thinking this a bit to be honest. I just thought of it on the spot. I thought at the time (and still want to believe) that it was worth a mention so that paragraph stays.

Before proceeding with Laura. I must remind you that I will not take all three of the supporting characters into full view (i.e. Angela, Laura, and Eddie) until the final parts of Silent Hill 2's Analysis. I am sorry, you may not agree with me, but you must also keep in mind that won't stop me from detailing what they reflect in James.

Laura: She represents more Mary than James. This being Mary's Innocence and James's Doubt/Truth. Though many believe that she isn't real, I have began to debate this as well. Though without solid evidence, I can't support this fully.

Eddie: This more or less represents James's "Darker Side". What he is capable of.. this will be gone into detail as the Parts continue seeing that Eddie has a bigger role than Laura and even Angela.

Angela: Lastly we are represented with the "Uncomfortable Side" of James. This being the Suicidal Tendencies he can have. More the decision making that he must make (like Angela herself) through Silent Hill. Though she resembles more of Mary in some aspects to the character, we can't help but to relate to Angela more.

If you also notice that Angela, not James, Mary, Laura or Eddie are on the cover of Silent Hill 2. This more indicates that the Player may feel that James and Angela are connected. This one I will examine more into has I do the extras of Silent Hill 2's Analysis.
