Description Matisse influenced; screen-printed on canvas attached to plywood (I made the canvas myself). I chose these specific colors because I wanted at least three colors that complement eachother; I mixed a saturated reddish-orange, a yellow, and then for the stencils I wanted a dark-purple more-so on the red side. The stencils were designed by me; I cut them out using scrap paper bags and exposed to the screen, I used 2 screens for this. First I applied a square-shaped exposed screen for the background; I chose orange and yellow and wanted to use a "checkerboard" pattern. Getting the color on was a bit tricky and I had to make a few passes until I got the consistency I wanted, I had to be careful with the staples on the edges so I didn't tear the screen, hence why there are some spots missing paint. I noticed the colors were overlapping and I chose to keep it like that because it added an unique a texture to a piece that would've otherwise appeared "flat". I then carefully chose specific locations of the stencil exposed screens and applied it to the board, you can notice that some of the stencil shapes cut off, I still wanted a clear application so I decided to keep those cut-offs; it gives a "to be continued" off canvas type of look. Today the piece rests in my living room, it's fairly large; about 4feet wide and 3feet tall.
