Despite its shortness, 'The Masque of the Red Death' is an amazingly evocative work, describing the setting and brief but horrific conclusion with a succinctness and poetry that it is easy to picture Prince Prospero and his fortified abbey in the mind, but open enough to allow for a wide range of interpretations. This is my take on the climax of the deadly Masquerade, with the closing lines, "And Darkness and Decay and the Red Death held illimitable dominion over all."
