Trying to keep up my motivation to draw and maintain the state of being inspired as best as I can, but boy oh boy it is hard when you get a long weekend for Australia Day celebrations, with work taken off! But here I am with a new piece, and I've returned with the hair obsession once again haha.
I've always wanted to draw a piece with floating, glowing goldfish, not really sure why. The idea's been playing at in my head for a while now, so I'm glad I finally was able to get it out of my head. I've done glowing fish and glowing birds so far, but glowing goldfish was cool!
Honestly, I really struggled on this piece. You know that frustration when you know what you want your final product to look like? But the steps of getting there are just nonsensical and an absolute mess? I redid the sketch over and over and over and even played with colours, just colours, for hoooours! But I'm really happy and satisfied with how it turned out, all those hours of freaking over the tiniest little details paid off hooray.

I like the different levels of realism in this; the contrast between the sketchy parts and the fully coloured face and things in between gives it an interesting sense of coming together as I look at it. It's sort of ethereal and solid at the same time. I also enjoy the contrasts of warm and cool colours, and of shadow and light. It comes across as simple but very eye-catching.

I love the light in your pieces. There's just something about them that invokes an otherness that bridges fantastical and surreal. The gold fish in this one are a lovely addition, it makes me think she's a sea nymph or goddess. It's gorgeous.
