I'm a 2-D fan. There's nothing wrong with 3-D and I greatly admire those who can sculpt digitally.
I say both!

Oooh, it's like I can reach through and grab it and feel all the texture and the slick slime of those... tentacles.. I can see it being thick and muscular-- very solid-- and the boney collar bone

This looks very interesting. The amount of detail you manage to put into your pieces always amazes me.
The textures and colouring really add to the piece as well.
Looks organic and therefore it looks almost real.
Wonderful work.

You started 3d? ...what the.....im so jealouss xD haha you are so talented. Amazing.
I think for atmosphere is 2d better but for character designs and details 3d is good.

Has a more regal feel to the creature, n'est-ce pas? The pose reminds me of those old Victorian paintings of conquerors and emperors, the kind that would hang above a fireplace or in the entrance halls of their mansions and castles. I'm a little vague on the story here - is this an intelligent creature? Sentient? It looks like it very well could be.

I just got into zbrush myself, and you're quickly becoming one of my top inspirational sources. It's crazy that you just started using 3D software. I know it all comes down to practice, so you must be really dedicated. I can't wait to see what you sculpt next (hoping it's the The Raptor / Cruentulodon).

You recently started working on 3d??? huh.
The detail in the creature is amazing, specially around its eye. I also love the texture.
About your question, I think that 2d & 3d serve different purposes. 3d giving you the oportunity to show different amount of details and 2d serving for a more general feel...

I prefer 2D & 3D concepts. Each has its pro and cons.

I really like this concept. What do you have in mind for manipulators? I could see this as a technological species. Perhaps a hint of ornamentation somewhere.

Ah, never mind. I have now seen how large they are, and they look more like large beasts. perhaps a more evolved cousin to this species would be better for an intelligent species.

Nothing wrong with a giant intelligent species . We don't know what we will find, or what will find us.

Kind of depends on where you draw the line for intelligence. Elephants have proven to be not only intelligent, but also self aware, but most people wouldn't call them more than large beasts.

I am on the lookout for several space faring species for a project I am working on.

Is it supposed to be intelligent? It's eyes show some kind of intelligence.

I see it too. The posture and the forehead shape hint that something more than instinct is in that brain.
