This is one of Shining Nova's two lead singers, Nathaniel Xavier, but he is called Nautilus Tide by his friends. Along with Slifer, he is the co-founder and co-leader of Shining Nova. He is also a gifted songwriter, and most of the band's hit singles were composed by him!

Of all the members of Shining Nova, Nautilus is the only one who was an orphan (in fact, he has no living relatives at all; he's the last of his line). He's also the only one who was adopted. Rumor has it that he was raised by mermaids who dwell in the Pacific Ocean. However, I will not reveal the exact identity of his adopted family at this time, but I can tell you for sure that they were very kind and loving and that they indeed hail from an ocean environment. I can also tell you a bit about his biological parents, both of whom were killed when he was a just a baby. His father was a black man born in Jamaica, while his mother was a Japanese American maiden born and raised in California. Nautilus is proud of his mixed heritage, embracing the musical aspect of his Jamacian side and the cultural aspect of his Japanese side. He would sometimes try to mix the two aspects of his heritage, with surprising success. Leave it to Nautilus to practice Zen meditation to the music of Reggae. *sweatdrop* When he was fourteen, he made friends with Coral Mist and moved in with her, since she often live independently of her own family. A year later when they became high school freshmen, they became the co-owners of the apartment where the other members of Shining Nova soon called home. He helped Slifer found the band, taking the role of its lead singer in full stride. Later, he would also perform duets with Coral, with whom he had evenutally fallen in love.

Nautilus is best described as a cool guy, usually calm and serene. He is passionately fond of music, and he especially loves to sing; sometimes he would be found humming to himself in the hallways. He posesses a very captivating voice, so sweet that it can make angels weep (if there is one of two people who would be the voice actor for Nautilus' singing voice, either Jesse McCartney or Linkin Park's Chester Bennington would be the guy; both voices suit Nautilus perfectly, especially Chester's). He rarely gets angry, but when he does it can be a terrifying experience for those involved, for his wrath is like a storm at sea with the power of a category 5 hurricane! More often though, he tends to have bouts of deep depression, especially in the band's darkest moments, often displaying a rather unusual trait: he cries black tears, even when he's not wearing makeup. In spite of that, and his occasional stubborn streak, Nautilus is a likeable guy. That, along with his singing voice, makes him the most popular guy in school, but thankfully he never lets it go to his head. Although he enjoys social gatherings of all types, he prefers parties that are sophisticated and elegant, especially those that involve ballroom dancing.

He also happened to be friends with Izzy Sparks, an official Guitar Hero character, although there are many aspects of their personalities that tend to clash with each other. That said, it's a wonder how they even managed to get along.

Obviously enough, Nautilus lives up to his name and commands the power of water magic. His type of water magic is the most powerful, for they derive from the mighty ocean itself. The conduit of his ocean magic is Sonic Wave, a shapeshifting staff made of coral topped with an aquamarine gem. Sonic Wave can change it shape into a musical instrument that reflects the soul of its wielder. In the case of Nautilus it is a shape unlike any seen before among its previous owners: a microphone and it stand. When not using Sonic Wave in his performaces, Nautilus would take advantage of its other uses. In battle, he sweeps away foes with a powerful tide or trap them in watery tentacles. Under dire circumstances he uses Sonic Wave in microphone form for his most powerful--and dangerous-- attack: his voice. Putting all his power into the speaker of the microphone, he would utter a loud shriek that terrifies even the most powerful demons-- and bring about a shockwave capable of shattering several glass windows at once.

Aside from the cultural aspects of his mixed heritage, Nautlius embraces the aquatic lifestyle he grew up with. He's most at home in a tropical beach environment, and he enjoys swimming as much as he enjoys running. In reflection to his heritage, Nautilus a connoisseur of Athentic Japanese cuisine and seafood. The many types of Sashimi and sushi are his favorites. Not so surprisingly, his least favorite food is curry... he's practically scared of the dish due to its habit of setting fire to the lining of his digestive system, both figuratively and literally! Unfortunately for him, curry happens to be the one food that Slifer loves the most, so he had to put up with watching him eat the "mouth burner" like it was ice cream. I imagine many hilarious scenes involving that aspect.

The one I have to say about this dawing is: Water--is--HARD! Especially when it's spouting! Other than that, I am very happy with the way I drew the bishie that is Nautilus. Aside from Coral, he's the most well developed of all my characters, problably because I'm a singer myself. With Guitar Hero Warriors of Rock in the mix, that information will likely be updated in further detail. Either way, I hope you like this drawing as much I do!
