Description

When pointing my camera I admit to looking more for a photo-post, rather than the transformation of light energy into ecosystems. However, I’m usually on the river this early to measure just that. One of our sensor instruments measures the production and use of oxygen and others the uptake and release of plant nutrients like nitrogen and phosphorus. Instruments today are basically tiny underwater labs that take measurements at all times of the day for as long as you leave them in water (or until they break down LOL). Graphs of the data are rhythmic waves, resembling what you would observe on a hospital patient hooked monitoring devices. Except in this case the patient is a river ecosystem whose life’s blood and heart beat is the light.
