Description *Warning! Contains spoilers for the end of Dragon Age: Inquisition and Solas' romance*

“I’m sorry I can’t” were the words that kept running through the Inquisitor’s head. She tried to keep it together as she returned to Skyhold, immediately bombarded by the questions of her advisers. She easily brushed them off and made her way to the garden to meet with Morrigan. The Inquisitor knew she had to keep it together until Corypheus was defeated. She also knew once that task was complete she could confront the well of emotions inside that were bursting at the seams.

“Morrigan?” she called as she entered the garden.

“Here Inquisitor” the mysterious woman responded. The Inquisitor managed to force a smile as she approached the new “vessel” of the Well of Sorrows.

“What do we need to do?” the young elf asked.

*Time Skip to after Corypheus’ defeat*

“Solas” the Inquisitor said as she walked over to the elf.

“The orb”

“I know you wanted to save the orb. I’m so sorry” the Inquisitor responded.

“It wasn’t your fault” Solas stated as he placed a piece of the orb back onto the ground.

“There’s more isn’t there?” the female elf asked with a raised eyebrow.

“It wasn’t meant to happen like this” Solas replied with a solemn tone.

“No matter what happens I want you to know what we had was real” he added. But before the Inquisitor was able to say anything Cassandra called out. The Inquisitor looked at Solas, the man she loved, before going over to the rest of her companions.

“So it’s finally over. Corypheus is defeated. What now?” Cassandra asked.

“We go back to Skyhold”

*To Skyhold!*

The Inquisitor couldn’t help the smile that crawled onto her face as the members of the Inquisition cheered in triumph.

“A moment, My Lady” Leliana requested. The Inquisitor nodded before following the spymaster up the stairs to the grand hall.

“My agents haven’t found a trace of Solas anywhere, he has simply vanished. It is likely that if he doesn’t want to be found we will have no luck. But we can keep looking” Leliana explained.

“I just don’t understand” the Inquisitor responded with a shaky breath, “He didn’t even say goodbye”

“The two of you were close” Leliana stated and the Inquisitor nodded in agreement.

“Now that Corypheus is defeated, we have a moment to celebrate. Enjoy the night while you can” Leliana said with a smile before walking off. The Inquisitor returned the smile before letting out a shaky breath. She milled around for a bit, smiling at her companions, making small talk here and there before she couldn’t take it any longer. She let out a sigh of relief when she was able to slip away from the celebrations to her quarters. She looked at the sky from the door way to the balcony as she was overwhelmed by her bottled up emotions.

“Might as well be now” she muttered to herself before embracing her emotions instead of pushing them aside. She tried to hold back the first sob but was unable to, and then she fell to her knees as she cried to herself. She was abandoned by the man she loved, trusted him with her heart and it was thrust back into her face. The grief and hurt was so overwhelming and she couldn’t stop the tears from cascading down her cheeks. Everything hurt, especially her heart. She had never known pain like this and she would hope never to experience it again.

“Inquisitor?” a voice called out pulling the woman from her thoughts. She tried to quiet her sobs but was unsuccessful as the person made their way up the stairs.

“Inquisitor?” the voice called again but softer this time.

“Yes?” she responded, her voice meek. Dorian emerged at the top of the stairs, a soft expression on his face. The Inquisitor quickly wiped away her tears, well tried to at least. It didn’t help that more tears were replacing the ones she disposed of. Dorian walked over and offered a hand to the elf with a gentle smile. She gratefully took his hand and was helped to her feet. He then led her over to the lounge and sat down. She sighed before sitting beside the Tevinter mage.

“What’s wrong?” he asked with concern laced through his tone. He gently wiped away a stray tear as he waited for her response.

“Solas..He” the elven rouge tried to explain. Dorian didn’t need to hear anything else and pulled her in for a hug. He already knew what happened between her and the elven apostate; after all he was one of her closest friends.

“You should return to the party. Didn’t you say you wanted to bed some cute guy you saw?” the Inquisitor asked.

“Not when you’re like this” Dorian responded as he shook his head. The Inquisitor let out a thankful sigh as she rested her head on the mage’s shoulder.

“Thank you Dorian” she said with a small smile. She was extremely glad to have people there for her, after all of she didn’t she wouldn’t have lived for long nor would the world.
