Description
“I must say, Sootclaw, I am impressed.” Mudtail mewed, chuckling a bit towards the Older tome sitting, well, more slouching, next to her. “Seeing you still stumbling about as a warrior. You weren’t exactly the youngest cat when i began my training, and I’m well on my way to being a senior warrior myself.” She teased, flashing her former mentor a smirk.
Sootclaw, surprisingly, gave the brown molly a smirk of his own. Normally any cat would be at least a bit frustrated by being teased about their age, especially a hot tempered tom like he was. However, he knew Mudtail didn’t mean any really insult, they often tossed playful insults at one another when the came together for their small chats.
“Age means nothing to me these days.” He replied, his baritone voice rumbling his chest. “I’m still one of the best warriors in this clan. Far better than you, though I suppose that isn’t that difficult.”
Mudtail let out a fake gasp, putting a paw to her chest in mock offence. “Oh, how you wound me, my captain.” however, her smirk soon returned as she continued. “Though, if I am such a horrible warrior, then who’s fault is that then, hmm?”
Sootclaw chuckled, shrugging his shoulders. “Touche.”
Mud laughed again, giving the other cat a friendly shove on the shoulder.
“Oh, I only kid you, Sootclaw.” She said, her gaze looking off toward the horizon, the pines of the ShadowClan territory waving gently in the afternoon breeze. “There are times when I miss my training days, you know, when you weren’t throwing a hissy fit that I was better at hunting than fighting.”
Sootclaw snorted. “Well forgive me for wanting to pass on my flawless fighting moves. You had no interest in experimenting.”
“Not true.” Mudtail corrected. “I did once figure out a clever way to lure the rabbits from their holes.
Sootclaw rolled his eyes, still grinning.
Mudtail smiled. “You’d get along well with my son, Woodpaw. He’s quite the fighter himself, he’s got one hell of a bite.”
Sootclaw groaned. “Don’t remind me of your kits, you really will make me feel old that way.”
The earth colored she-cat blew some air through her lips, her paw waving off his comment. “Oh please, I told you already I was joking with you. Like you said, age means nothing as long as you can provide for the clan.”
Sootclaw smirked, looking to his former apprentice and nodding. “I suppose, I’ll have to meet the lad, show him some of the moves you had no interest in.”
Mudtail rolled her eyes. “Yeah, yeah, come on then, whaddya say we grab something from the fresh kill pile to snack on and then we can finish talking?”
Sootclaw smiled, lifting himself slowly to stand on his paws.
“Sounds good.”

I mentioned Sootclaw briefly in one of the ask Mudtail posts kerorolover16.deviantart.com/a…
He was Mudtail’s mentor, he was around 24 moons when she was became his apprentice, so in this picture he’s about 5 and a half years old. Not terribly old but over halfway to being an elder. Don’t even mention early retirement to him, the dude’s going until he drops.
When Mud was his apprentice they would fight quite a bit, as they both had a bit of a snarky attitude and neither were willing to admit defeat. As mentioned above, Mud was never really terribly interesting in fighting. She did well but she never showed much interest in learning more than what was necessary to become a warrior. She was more interested in hunting, as running freely across the moorland and chasing down prey gave her a rush she found far more appealing than scuffling with her mentor.
Sootclaw, who specialized with fighting techniques, obviously was not very happy with this information. He kept trying to push her to become more interested in fighting. But mud wasn’t having any of it. Eventually Sootclaw got over it and not long after mud took and passed her warrior assessments.
Sometime after Mud became a warrior she and Sootclaw would have short chats. Never about anything specific, just kinda shootin the shit. Sootclaw at first was still a little sore about her disinterest in fighting and there countless fights in her apprentice days, but over time he found himself somewhat looking forward to their chats. It was nice to just talk to each other as fellow warriors, and not just an apprentice and mentor. They don’t get the chance to talk often, but they still manage to meet up when given the chance.
I don’t plan on ever using Soot for any rp purposes, he’s just a character in muds backstory. I might draw more of him in the future though.
