Part of the Crawford Hybrids series
The story behind this picture extends beyond what is known of the Crawford hybrids and comes from logical conclusions as well as my own imagination.
The Syndicate men find out that the entire Crawford series is working against the project and not only the first hybrid they have killed. They proceed to execute them all, as well as the gestating young clones, suspecting these are not made according to instructions. One of the Crawfords is in a different room with one of the children performing some final tests on her. Upon hearing the commotion, he hides away with the healer and manages to escape, making his way to Canada where he moves into an isolated country house and raises the girl as a younger sister. This location is chosen because it is close to one of the Syndicate's plantations. Crawford plans to rescue the agrarian workers stationed there and destroy the infected plants and apiaries.

The sparrows symbolize the value of every life as a reference to Matthew 10:29: "What is the price of two sparrows—one copper coin? But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it."

The beard and hair is a way for the last Crawford to go into hiding by changing his appearance, but this was really Mr. Lovgren's idea, since he humorously complained about looking "terrible" in the X-Files and wished to look more like his current self on the paintings. I told him I’d find a way to work his beard into one of the pictures, and this is the result.
