wow, very impressive work, looks fantastic. the brownish skin and the dark background work together very fine.
the water drops look almost a little regular towards the bottom, but they are good anyway, and add a lot to the photo.
only one thing...there is a weird red stroke in the bottom right corner, what's that?

you did a nice set up for the shot, with the oil and water, and almost heated feeling, i feel warm looking at this... really sensual passionate feeling... nice work!....

Another gorgeous shot! It's your lighting which really hallmarks your shots. If you don't mind my asking, I was thinking about getting into some studio work and wanted to by some lighting...what kind of lighting setup do you use and how do you use it to light a shot? These may be your particular secrets to success and you may not feel like revealing them, and I would understand, but if you could let me know I would REALLY appreciate it. I was thinking about just starting out with a single light with umbrella and a reflector, what do you think?

kevinlomax In reply to quirk [2003-09-17 22:00:35 +0000 UTC]

Well, itΒ΄s a unusual but simple setup. My "Daytimejob" is Light and Audioengineer for 2 comedians. That means that i work with light aproximately 150 - 200 Days a year, for venues between 100 and 3000 people. (also meaning that on some days, lucky me only has to work 2 hours a day, cause sometimes we play 3 to 4 weeks at the same theater. hehe. lots of time for making pics!!) In my Studio i have some of the same lamps that i would use on stage. Additionaly I use neonlight. (naturally more than one tube . That explains the different colours. I also use a Tungsten Diafilm from Kodak. That means that the stagelights look normal, and the neonlights look blue. There are some catches though: If you want to use a film with low asa, then you would need alot of light (and thats hot, and raises your electricity bill quite a bit. Plus i think that they use a different gas in europe then in the states, meaning that your neonlit portions of the pictures would be green ( But i am not shure about that. you would have to check.) the rest is playing around with different setups of light where a few lamps shine on one spot. I also first build up a lighting setup, that fits the mood of the pics i want to make. then me and the model can move around in this setup, and see what we can find. I know this last part doesnΒ΄ t help much, but itΒ΄s the way I "find" my pictures. it just grew out of my job, and i always can practice, because in my job i have to build up the same mood every time, working with vastly different conditions.

I hope I could help. please let me know if I did or not. I think the idea with the single light with umbrella and a reflector is a good start to see what it does. One last tip: Look closely into the eyes of the people on the pictures. if you look at the highlights, you can guess what kind of light setup they used, because the lamps from the front reflect in their eyes.
I always check that.

Good luck, and have alot of fun!

That's some good advice! Especially on checking the eyes! Are flourescents come out green in pictures, it's true. It never occured to me that they would use different gasses in different places. Hmmm. I just assumed you were using color filters on your lights. Thanks very much for the advice, I really appreciate it!
