STATION FIVE"Simon is Forced to Carry the Cross"
Mixed media oilgraph on canvas with blood.
36"x36"
History
The Stations of the Cross are the fourteen traditional panels
depicting the final moments of Christ's life starting with his condemnation
to death at the hands of Pilate to his crucifixion and burial in the tomb. Over
the years pilgrims would go to Jerusalem and walk the route Jesus took on his
way to the cross, stopping at moments along the way to remember, reflect and
pray. The Stations began appearing in the middle ages when pilgrims were forbidden
to enter Jeruselem when it was occupied by the Turks. They made the Stations
as a way to remember in Spirit back in their own countries. Long considered
only a Catholic tradition, they are now finding a popularity across all traditions.
These are my versions. This journey started in February of 2005 and the
last of the Fourteen was completed April 4th.

your use of lighting and colour and overall technique really make these stand out. It's rare these days to find art that has real emotion in it.
