Description
This is a follow up to my project from yesterday. This time I wanted to focus on two important roles of the mother: self sacrifice and pouring into. All images by me. The arrows and the shield were made using 3D tools in photoshop. And the models, of course, are my wife and son!

That’s only relevant here if you’re looking to making babies.

Both of your pieces moved me. I feel tears pouring in my eyes. You really embody both the roles of a Mother and a Father in these pieces. Well done.

Maybe the mother shouldn't be teaching her kid to read while people are shooting arrows at them. Seems impractical. Better mothering would be removing them from the middle of no-man's land.

It's a book about how to get out of no-man's land. She's teaching self-sufficiency, so that she isn't still taking arrows for a 27 year old.

Wish my mother had done that; she would have left me to take every arrow myself while she went away to smoke, then come back and berate me for being shot :/

Don't I know this all too well. Not all mothers fit into the Mold of the Ideal. I wish more people were willing to admit this.

No they do not, some are just unfit to be mothers.

Takes an arrow for the kids, and every opportunity uses it for guilt "I took an arrow for you, and you cannot put away your cloths?!"

I really like your seamless blending of the images, and I find your use of lighting particularly impressive. I also appreciate seeing someone put the time and thought into creating meaningful pieces.
One thing I wanted to ask, though, at the risk of staring a shitstorm in the comments...was this a conscious or unconscious representation of societal bias? I find it thought-provoking either way. In comparing this to the companion piece "Two Roles of a Father", I notice they describe similar roles at first glance. In both, the parent is protecting the child while providing for their needs. However, the man is allowed to remain unscathed, while the woman is expected to suffer happily. Also, the father is defending the child against cosmic forces, while the mother is acting as a shield against human agencies. This would seem to parallel the ancient Greek philosophical tradition that a man's intellect was best put to use contemplating the nature of reality and the divine, while a woman's emotions were better suited to the physical world. Another thing I noticed in comparing the images was that the female child is receiving material objects of beauty while the male child is receiving an education. I was just curious to hear your thoughts on whether this was all an intentional critique on gender roles or not. Thank you for your time.
(To everyone else: I will only be responding to comments from the artist. Thank you for understanding.)

thanks for sharing your questions. I think you are really overthinking it though. A father has many roles when it comes to raising his children. Protecting and providing are two of them, but of course there are more. The love of a father (and husband), as described in the Bible is one that is loving in a sacrificial way. So I could have easily put some of those attacks hitting the father. And I could have had him showing a book to his child as well, because the Bible also tells fathers to instruct their children. However, I only was able to to choose 2 roles, so I mainly focused on protecting and providing/cherishing.
As for the mother image, I just wanted to add my son to this one as a contrast with my father/daughter image earlier. There's nothing special about the genders here. I could have easily as done a father/son and a mother/daughter one, which I might in the future. We only have two kids, so that's just how it worked out And also with the mother image, she could be providing and cherishing as well, as the Bible teaches. But I just wanted to show the mother pouring into and teaching the child.
Thanks for questions and the genuine inquisitive nature!
