Description
Gabriel's red eyes flashed as he tilted his head downward to look at the woman standing at his door.“What do you want?” He growled more out of frustration than anything else.
Sanura sighed. She had grown so used to his temperament that even when it should offend her, at the moment she could bring up no feeling for it. “I needed to see you…”
“Needed to - “ he cut himself off and found himself taking a step backwards allowing her entrance to his home. He knew what was coming, but this time he just was not in the mood for the game. “So what this time, Princess? Still no one understands your darkness and you feel out of place?”
Her eyes widened slightly at his coarse tone. She took in his disheveled appearance. His gold eyes were red from lack of sleep, or alcohol, she could not quite be sure of which. His hair was tousled atop his head and his shoulders were slightly slumped as if he was just worn to the bone with exhaustion. She watched him walk to his fireplace and lean against the mantle, taking the poker to prod at the ashes. “I couldn’t sleep.”
“And you thought I could help?” His anger was no longer deniable. He spun to face her, the poker landing with a clank on the brick in front of the fireplace. “Look at me, Princess! Do I look like I could help anyone sleep? I haven’t slept in nearly a week! Do you even want to know why?” He waited briefly to give her a chance to speak but when it was clear that she wasn’t going to, he scoffed and shook his head with a half-hearted chuckle. “Of course you don’t. You don’t care. You are so caught up in your own self pity that you honestly don’t think of anyone but yourself.”
“Wait, that’s just not –"
“Not true?” he interjected. “I have to disagree. You are so caught up in the past that you don’t even have your eyes opened to your present or your future. It’s sad really. You have so much potential. But you won’t listen to anyone. You come to me to feel some form of validation and then are insulted when I speak the truth. You can come over here, or call me to meet you somewhere, anywhere, and we can have sex, because its not making love when only one of the pair is actually feeling feelings that could be considered even remotely close to love, but then the moment we are done, the door opens and either you throw me out, or you leave.”
The silence following his words was deafening to her ears as his words sank in. Had she really be so selfish, she wondered. She shook her head in denial. He was just like them. He didn’t understand her. He never did. No one did. Why was she even there standing in his home allowing herself to be insulted? She silently turned to leave when his biting laughter made her stop.
“Cant take it, huh? The truth? Or can’t accept the fact that while you are destroying yourself, there is someone here who, though he really shouldn’t have feelings for you whatsoever, is standing here talking you? And this same person has been fighting with himself because he thinks that he could very possibly love you, which not only scares him but because a part of you knows this, it scares you. Is that it, Princess? You think yourself so horrible that you are incapable of having love or being loved? So you came to me thinking because I am one of those scary, dark creatures that it would be okay, because then it was as if it wasn’t real? Because how can a creature such as me love? Especially since the last time I found love, it was shredded, quite literally, in front of me with no way for me to stop it and I would have rather died with her than love without her. Yeah, believe me, I’ve gone the rounds with myself over it… especially since your master was the murdering bastard who destroyed me.”
Gabriel shook his head again and took a breath. “I can’t do it anymore, Princess. You are like this treasure dangling in front of me, but no matter how many times I am there for you, I just can’t seem to get close enough. I just can’t seem to get through to you. I didn’t want to let you in and get somehow you got in and now I am kept at a mile's worth of distance. That’s not how this is supposed to work. Either we are together or we aren’t. I understand you more than you know. You just can’t get over yourself enough to get me. And frankly, my dear, its time I have a damn about myself. Let me rest in peace. You stay gone just long enough for me to attempt to move on only to have you suddenly drop by and pull on those heart strings some more. Princess, I don’t have many strings left to pull. And if you don’t want to open your eyes, you need to leave me be.
“I can’t sleep, Sanu. I close my eyes, and you are there. I breathe, and I catch your scent. You don’t even care how badly you affect me. I just can’t keep playing this game. We played with fire. I got burned. I don’t know what to do anymore.”
“Gabriel…”
“No… you need to go before I do something I will regret…”
It was then Sanura realized his hand was clenched into a fist, but not in threat of violence toward her. But as a means of attempting to fight himself from doing something he wanted to do, but felt he shouldn’t. She did not understand what was going on. She could feel the tsunami of emotions swelling inside him. She took a step backwards toward the door.
“Go! Run!” He roared with a broken voice.
With no more hesitation, she turned and did as he commanded. She opened the door, and she ran.
