Is it normal that I have been drawing for 15+ years and still have trouble with hands? OTLL Either way these are really nice

I've sucked at hands as long as I've been drawing. You're not alone.

I managed to pull this one off with a ref but it took forever....and strenuous efforts...! But still omg it's a hand~! animalover4six.deviantart.com/…
HOWEVER, that aside I still suck at hands cuz it's not like that hand means I conquered drawing them....I can't draw them on a regular basis, I'd have to be super determined for something like I was with this piece to achieve that again...
Therefore I'll still be in the sucks at hands club!

At least you tried!! Now you just need to draw them more and you'll get better at them. And I get that getting determination for doing something can be tough, but I would say to stop thinking about what your weaknesses are and rather enjoy drawing for what it is. The skills then come after from drawing more. With that said, I still am bad at hands even though I draw them more frequently xD

Eh...I suppose, but still it's not fun for me it'd feel more like homework lol
Anyways thanks for the advice/support~! I sorta drew a hand before that example I showed in the link as well, though tbh the one from the link is better ahaha, but I also pulled through for that hand for the same reason, it was needed in that particular drawing so that was enough to push me!(that one took even longer than this recent one!)
For some reason I tend to better with misc pose/action hands than the generic full hand, something about it is easier for me I dunno.
(if I can muster motivation)maybe I'll try practice those types of hands first, since I tend to do better with them😅

Yeah same here. I find drawing a face in a 3/4 view effortless compared to a frontal view. It's because we remember the particularity and shape better when the item is in 'action'. I say go for drawing the types of hand you're more comfortable with then when you understand the sections of the hand, you can then adjust your drawings to be more consistent.

I'm currently working on a pin-up and don't have any female friends around to model for me. One of these hands specifically is exactly the position I was searching for online. THANKS!

This is awesome!
do you have any guides or tutorials (or know any good ones) that show you about hands holding other hands?
Like when you pull someone after you when running, just holding hands, ect?
Thanks for the great tut, by the way!

I don't know if anyone else has answered you somewhere aside from here, but the best way to go about doing that is to get the forward most hand completely drawn in the shape that you want it, and then overlap the parts of the hand from the other, on top of your first one. I would think that the best way to keep this from becoming a jumbled mess of fingers is to be sure you nail the shadows each finger creates on the opposing hands. (if you are making realistic hands you will also need to take into account muscular and tendon structure when shading)

no problem, I find myself needing more practice when I go into practical application (actually doing it myself), but I know theory pretty well haha

Haven't drawn much since I was a kid, but I'd like to give it a try again, and your hand reference is a huge help. Thanks again!
