Description
Finally after forever (been working on this since I got the geno) I've finished Sputnik's first picture Sputnik eventually becomes the main flock herder, with Anouk falling into a full guarddog role. I also got to draw quails, which happen to be my favourite things in the universe 8D
My husband also asked me if it was a Justin Bieber Tokota, so I think I might try and cut down on the fuzz next time xD

Gianno sighed uncertainly as he glanced forward. He knew they couldn’t be more than a few hours out from the terrain, however the area seemed almost foreign to him. None of the landmarks seemed to make sense, yet everything felt eerily familiar. He also knew it wasn’t just the landscape that was bothering him. He had wanted to take the Tokota on an expedition, hoping it might lead to some answers, but he felt like he had more questions than anything.
The vet noted that his new friend was perfectly healthy and safe to introduce to the flock so long as Gian was alright with the potential that he might try and eat one. He laughed it off, knowing Anouk wouldn’t dare let it happen. Yet he felt uncertain about having another Tokota, especially one the vet noted was a rare mutation. Sure Anouk was far more of a guard than a herder, however he had never felt like he was missing anything by not having another. The only reason he even considered keeping the shaggy creature was the fact that Anouk seemed so welcoming towards him. She was the one who found him that night and took care of him like he was one of her sheep…something exceedingly odd considering her normal aggression towards any potential threat.
Gian just didn’t exactly know what to think. He was amazingly lucky that Anouk showed an almost innate sense of guardianship towards his livestock – but she grew up with them. This guy…well he was nearly full grown. Surely he had a previous handler as he was entirely trained for riding, however there was no guarantee that he would ever be safe around other animals, and this alone terrified Gian. People here were already hostile towards Tokotas, and it had taken years to prove that Anouk had a rightful place, and it all felt like it could be thrown away with a single mishap from this new creature.
The handler’s thoughts came to a sudden jolt as the Yeti made an abrupt stop. He gave a quick look around, suddenly worried a bear or cougar had startled him. Swiftly he dismounted, wishing he had brought more. Sure he had a basic hunting knife, as well as some supplies, but he surely wasn’t expecting danger. Expecting the worst, he continued to glance around until the Tokota let out a hushed woof before nudging him impatiently as if to hush the man. It was only then did the handler pick up on the reasoning to the sudden stop.
“Quails!” He exclaimed, met by another nudge from the Yeti. “Sorry.” He whispered. While not exactly native to the area, California quails were not exactly a rare sight in the region. A farmer had originally brought them up from the south, and after a few escaped the population was having somewhat of a book in the area. Anouk had always loved them, playing constantly with them as a pup, but never daring to harm a single feather. He held his breath not knowing the Yeti’s plan. The massive creature could make an easy lunch out of them, and the handler would be helpless to stop him. Yet he remained still, if not annoyed by Gian’s movements which threatened to disturb them. Finally when they had finished crossing and disappeared into the underbrush did the Yeti move, if only to give the handler a stern look to ensure he wouldn’t follow, and that no harm would come to them.
“Well,” Gian was nearly gasping in disbelief, a massive smile spreading across his face. “I think you will fit in well in the farm!” (605 words)

Oh god, me too. There's a place about an hour out of where we live that we constantly visit just to watch them in the spring <3 Seriously the cutest little buggers ever!

My friend used to have a handful of quails. They just run around her yard being all quail like.
