Description
I, Kieran Heywood, with the help of co-artist, Jamie Jordan, created this acrylic painting on canvas. My title for our piece is, “A Patch of Hope.” It is inspired by the observable effects of smog in China and the notable differences that could be seen before, during, and after the Covid-19 lockdowns. Those lockdowns give an example of how things could look if we completely changed our way of life. Without constant pollution from factories and other sources, our planet would be much healthier and more sustainable. It is very important to remember that there is hope and we have a part in creating a better future for our environment. We depicted these ideas by creating a mechanical factory creature that is terrorizing a Chinese city and making the sky dark with smog. The monster has severely affected the city which we showed by adding dead plants and litter to the mostly bare foreground. To represent hope, we created a hero to fight the monster and protect biodiversity from the toxicity.
