Description An labeled map of another worldbuilding project of mine, this time of a High Fantasy world known as Volantis. Featuring humans, elves, dwarves and a heap of other made up fantastical races, along with history, culture and whatnot. Made in my spare time to jog my creation side, turned much better and i just keep adding to it, so i thought i share.

The known world goes by many names, but to most people of Kyrat it is known as Volantis, derived from the High Elven word Voll'antes, ''Arena of Souls''. The only remaining world of the original Nine Worlds after the Sundering, it was originally created by Xaus, the King of Heaven that is nearly universally worshiped by every culture in the world under many different names and aspects. It's sun is commonly known only as The Sun, but kyrati scholars and priests call it by its proper name, which is Ailuhn, or ''Light of The World'', which was given by Malaias, the Architect God. The night sky of Volantis is lit by two moons, the larger, bluish-white Tor and the smaller, snow-white Sai, both of which were placed there by the two great suitor goddesses of Xaus, Raia and Adunas respectively.

The age of the world is lost on all but the great spirits and the gods, but through the Faeries, the oldest living beings of Volantis, which live on the Fade islands in the Coral Sea and take great pride in (and thorough records of) their history , it is known that there have been some 25,300 years since the Sundering, though the Nine Worlds had existed for a much, much longer period of time before that. Virtually all signs of the pre-Sundering world have been erased by the gods when they decided to begin their 'project' anew, although it is generally agreed upon by scholars, priests and even spirits who were present that almost no life survived the disaster regardless, only the world itself; a barley living, husk of its former glory, refilled with new life by the gods and their servants .

Most reasonably learned mortals know the world to be a round sphere, as some have been known to circumnavigate it, although many less fortunate peasants still believe it to be flat. It has three main landmasses, the continents of Kyrat, Solanis and Rhys, each varied in environments, cultures and peoples.

-Of the three continets, Kyrat is the largest, extending north to south for some 7000 kilometers and east to west for about 3500 at its widest two points. It is without a doubt the most diverse in terms of lands, featuring frozen tundras to the north, temperate forests and grasslands dominating its center, two massive arid deserts and even tropical jungles to the south. In terms of racial diversity it is also surpasses the other two continents combined, featuring two dozen different races, many with many sub-species and cultures. The dominant two races are the humans, who created two of the six largest empires in the world on Kyrat , the Silenian Empire and Kondaran Empire, and the ancient elves, who predate the humans and may be the oldest continuous nation in the world. For all its power, Kyrat has historically been the most strife ridden lands of Volantis, with countless natural and magical disasters as well as many devastating wars fought between the nations and outside invaders over the last four eras. The southern region known as Starfell is one of the claimed birthplace of Men, as it is known that some of the oldest known sightings of humans on Kyrat were made by ancient elves.

-To the east of Kyrat lies the continent of Solanis, the second largest landmass of Volantis, spreading almost as far from east to west as Kyrat dose from north to south, although much of it remains significantly narrower. This temperate landmass is dominated by two key features: the Te Adar mountains that stretch across its southern shores, and the Oran Sak mountains stretching along its center region. A massive frozen tundra known as The Chill dominates the northern side, and a large desert known as the Voronal lies in between the two mountain ranges. Historically, Solanis has has little contact with Kyrat, despite being much closer than the other continent of Rhyss, and in general its nations have been much more isolationists- with the north dominated by the inhospitable Chill, home to strange, white haired men that have furiously raided the rest of the continent for millennia, while the southern coast has been mostly locked down by the great Empire of Tuun and it's allie. Aside from the great empires there is also the smaller nations, mostly satellite states created as buffers and trade hubs, but some fully independent kingdoms still remain- one of these is Voormal, with its infamous capital of Vaal, said to be a heaven of necromancers, vampires, blood mages and other dark magic users that the king employs against would be invaders.

-Lastly, to the south of Solanis lies the broken continent of Rhysa, consisting of about four large islands surrounding the warm waters of the Summer Sea, home to many exotic races and cultures. The largest island is the jungle covered Alleris, home of the infamous Pellerin, a race of silver skinned, highly religious humanoids that have conquered much of the island- at one point, they had conquered it entirely, and turned to invade other lands beyond the sea, such as Kyrat, to spread their worship of the Archons, their gods. the other islands, the Eyries, Ha'jal and Geidron are dominated by the Valkoris, a human race of tall, ice-blue eyed barbarians that originate from around the Boiling Sea, one of the claimed birthplaces of human-kind. A naval war for supremacy has been raging in the waters surrounding Rhysa for two millennia, making trade and contact with the outside difficult but very profitable. To the east of the Summer Sea lies The Fade, the mist shrouded homeland of the long lived, magically inclined Faeries, the oldest creatures of Volantis said to have been the first to awaken in the new world.
