Description
Part of a series of paintings for my Water Media class this past semester. The assignment theme was "Everyday" leaving it very open to interpretation. I opted for a painting a day to fit the theme and allow me to paint things that interested me.For about a week I painted one 8"x8" painting of mythological/folk creatures from around the world. I worked primarily from descriptions only and reference real world animals for the monsters. Some of the backgrounds are based on real places others are based on photos found online.
Here is the rompo, a monster I've never heard of until this assignment. Here's a quick part from it's Wikipedia entry:
Rompo is a mythological beast with the head of a jack rabbit, human ears, a skeleton like body, the front arms of a badger, and the rear legs of a bear. It feeds only on human corpses and it is said to croon softly as it eats. Stories about the Rompo are found in India and Africa.
When I researched the Rompo there wasn't a picture on it's Wikipedia page so I only had the description to go by. I think I had the most fun painting those bones c:
Done with watercolors, gauche, and a little acrylic.
