I dunno if this counts as a speedpainting if it took me three hours - working on and off. XDDDD Well, for me it's speedy. I take forever. Dang you, perfectionism!!!!
This is for ~Diamonx 's Dragon Portrait contest. [link]
I think I may have misread the rules just a bit.....
So for all I know, I may be either keeping this design, or selling it to somebody. If I have to, I'll reenter in a day or two as soon as I find the time.

Wow... that is awesome, I love the way the flames curl... and the scales look good, the variation between the large scales along the front, and the small on the back help add some flair to it and... the shading is awesome... especially on the gem which makes it look rather shiney.

Wow! Glad to know that it looks good in the eyes of others! I usually reserve the spot-highlighting technique for Microsoft Paint because it seems to look more natural that way. Glad to know that it works in Maru's Sketcher, too.

Paint has a use? o.O I honestly have used microsoft paint for next to nothing... especially seeing as they completely redesigned so I don't even know half the tools in the latest version. I have to say dragons are hardly my personal strong point... then again neither are humans... or animals... or buildings... or robots... or... well a whole lot of things... I can draw rocks though... I think...

I'm not that great with rocks either, I just suck marginally less at them then everything else.

And for some reason, rocks (and backgrounds in general) have kinda always been my weak point. Those, and clothing folds.

That just proves you don't need to shell out huge sums of cash on over-priced software. ^.^
Clothing folds are a real pain to do, most my clothing ends up completely flat and unrealistic. Its something I need to work on... and when I try to put in folds it usually ressembles a scrunched up ball of paper.
A lot of people seem to claim they have trouble with backgrounds... I suppose its because its not something that gets practiced often. I mean you start with the sketch and then only do a tidy lineart if it looks nice... then you only colour when that looks nice... and so on. Backgrounds are usually the last thing you do, so by that time you're fed up with whatever you're drawing. >.<
