Description Often portrayed as a sword, from the trolls' hoard 'Bilbo took a knife...it was as good as a short sword for the hobbit.' So, having gone largely Saxon for Glamdring and Orcrist, I continued in a similar vein for this knife from Gondolin. The blade is based closely on a rather large one in the British Museum (number 1857,0623.1, late Anglo-Saxon seax). The blade of that seax is 55cm long, its tang 17cm, with total mass 985g, which would be quite big for a hobbit, so I am imagining mine as a bit smaller but with essentially the same shape. The cutting edge is on the left, but it has a sharp point as well. The runic inscription is also positioned as on the museum knife blade. The hilt went a bit Celtic, in part because I wanted a narrow grip for small hands. The spiral decoration on guard and pommel is as on Glamdring and Orcrist.
