Astrid had been nervous at first. She held the flower within her maw with the utmost care. The shrine’s tradition of holding these gatherings wasn’t something she was used to. At first her father had suggested against it, not with her recent injury and loss of her left leg. However, she knew Eskil would be here and she had been more than determined to woo him. Sitting near one of the statue’s she looked to the face of the felvarg and then back to the crowd. It did not take long for her to spot the silver curly. A bundle of yellow flowers, her favorite within his maw. Along with a small fish probably from his hometown.
She stood, wobbly on her three limbs as she approached the silver curly with her ears drawn towards her head. Eskil spotted her and a smile spread on his face, promptly replaced with concern as he looked towards her obviously missing limb.
“Astrid.” he mumbled with the flowers within his mouth. For a moment she looked to her stump, still scabbed over from her recent injury.
“Oh this…. It’s nothing.” She laughed as she offered him her flower. He held the three of his own and would place them down in front of her. Before inching the fish towards her as well.
“I caught this for you… I have the time tell me what happened.” He urged her as he sat on his stomach. Astrid sighed, she hated talking about it but she supposed that taking his gift as a sign of courtship she owed him a bit of an explanation. She settled with him, poking at the fish with her good paw.
“A week ago there was an issue with my uncle.” Astrid began as she sighed.
“Yaru? I heard he had passed in the village but the details were hazy.” Eskil shifted uncomfortably.
“My father killed him, for some reason he snapped. Yaru attacked me and well - he tore off my leg.” She tried to swallow down the words as she needlessly picked at the fish. Taking small nibbles for bites as Eskil seemed to sigh loudly. Trying to take in the information that was given to him.
“Astrid I should have been there, I knew how you and Yaru were close I’m sorry.” Gently he inched closer and pressed his head into her cheek. Astrid couldn’t deny that he sent flurries into her heart, a warmth that she couldn’t even begin to express in words.
“It’s okay, I’m stronger than I look - I’m recovering and I’ll be trapping again in no time.” Astrid smiled as Eskil chuckled lightly.
“Well miss Astrid I hope you accept my flowers as a sign of well…. I want to marry you.” Astrid choke a little on the fish. Looking up towards the curly male as her stump slightly ached, she pressed into him and laughed.
“Eskil you know I would always say Yes, you mean the world to me.” Her heart was pounding with his as Eskil tried to contain his happiness and held her close among the crowd.
